Re: Unpopular Gaming OpinionsReally? It would definetly be in my top 3 favourite Zelda games. It had one of the best storylines, some of the coolest characters (in particular Midna), good gameplay, realistic graphics and was in many ways a better version of Ocarina of Time. It wasn't as original as Wind Waker or Skyward Sword, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.(Original post by alexlduffy)
-The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess is massively overrated. It's not a bad game, just nowhere near one of the best Zelda games in my opinion.
Agreed. In my opinion, Pokemon had its pinnacle in the 2nd generation, so there is little point in remaking generations after this. I also think that the 5th generation of Pokemon should not have been made (or if it had been made, they should have waited a couple more years and released it on the 3DS and only have a new lot of 150 pokemon, without the ability to catch/trade the ones from the first 4 gens, since the total number of pokemon is now getting ridiculous).(Original post by alexlduffy)
--There shouldn't be another remake of a Pokémon game until Gen 6. And the next handheld RPG should be in 3D, or at least be top-down 3D similar to the previously-mentioned Zelda games for the DS.
I agree, although perhaps only because I'm so excited for Mass Effect 3 in 2 and a half weeks!(Original post by Hester_23)
Mass Effect is the best sci-fi story told in any form of media
---
I think that Final Fantasy is very overrated as a series.
I think that Minecraft is rubbish.
I think that Dragon Age: Origins was one of the best RPGs of this generation, while Dragon Age 2 was an abomination.
I think that in its glory days, Runescape was amazing.
I think that the best strategy game ever is Civilization IV.Last edited by Super Cicero; 21-02-2012 at 15:12. -
Re: Unpopular Gaming OpinionsWell sometimes it actually was. I still have a lot of ps1 and ps2 games and regularly go back to them because they're actually so much fun.(Original post by Tommyjw)
Gaming was not better when you were younger. It only seemed that way because it was newer back the and you expected less. It also pisses me off when people say this, complain about the lack of great new games, and then know sweet **** all about the fantastic single titles or indie games out there.
There are of course newer games that I appreciate but that list is a lot shorter.
My unpopular opinion: I actually dislike newer, "better" graphics you see certain games these days. Too much effort can be put in to making them look realistic instead of visually appealing.
Also, I feel gaming is more about achievement-whoring these days. On games in the past, I'd still be a completionist but because the game itself was so fun, it'd have replay value for it's own merit. The games I own these days have a lot less replay value in terms of just gameplay. I'm wanting to go back to get achievements, but there are only a few games I want to go back and play again and again.
Of course maybe I just have the wrong games. This is another problem (although not really the gaming industry's fault). When I was younger I got a lot of my games from perusing sales sections in HMV and buying pre-owned games from GAME. There was a lot of variety in doing it that day but since I got the internet I barely go into these shops anymore and do most of my browsing on amazon - whilst this is good for bargains and reviews, I just don't feel like I'm getting the same selection or choice of games that I used to.
Yeah, turned into a bit of an essay
EDIT: forgot my rant on online gaming. Online gaming is fun, but it costs a lot to just be able to play strangers if your friends don't have the game or aren't onlin. I hate games that only have online multiplayer. I know it's a money-making scheme so that anyone you want to play with has to have a copy as well, but I miss the days when you could game in the same room as the person you wanted to play with. I don't like the wii, but that's what they're doing right. I'd love to be able to just plug an extra controller in and play co op on dead island or assassin's creed. As it is, my housmate and I had to wait for an xbox live gold free weekend to be able to play together, and had to do it from separate rooms! Single player is when you play alone, multiplayer should allow you to be SOCIAL. That's the whole POINT.Last edited by Mm_Minty; 21-02-2012 at 15:31. -
Re: Unpopular Gaming OpinionsWoah woah woah. Considering it was just a game on the side made by a couple of people at Valve without any real marketing or expectations it was incredible.(Original post by marcusrc)
Portal is meh -
Re: Unpopular Gaming OpinionsSo do i, i especially love going back to my megadrive at home, but i still have equal amounts, if not more, fun when playing newer games because i recognise part of the fun with the old games is nostalgia.(Original post by Mm_Minty)
Well sometimes it actually was. I still have a lot of ps1 and ps2 games and regularly go back to them because they're actually so much fun.
I appreciate everyone is different and you may enjoy them more, i was more arguing against the objective 'old games were always better' view some people take, such a broad statement annoys me :P.
Then again, perhaps, i play more games than the average person, i esecially play more indie titles than most people i know, thus i see more of the 'fun of recent games than the average gamer who buys fifa & cod every year and plays nothing else?
Forget any of the big titles. Amnesia & Bastion are some of the best gaming moments of the past 6 months or so for me. -
Re: Unpopular Gaming OpinionsI still have the game and a gamecube(Original post by Architecture-er)
I know, this thread is so rep-able!
When I played Windwaker I was still young enough to get kicks out of all the time-consuming stuff, but still finish the game. Omgmgmgmggg I want to buy a Gamecube right now just so I can play it >.<
I was actually thinking of doing a Zelda marathon since I own quite a few of them

Re: Unpopular Gaming OpinionsNo, certain developers/publishers are killing the industry.(Original post by Repressor)
Consoles are killing the gaming industry.. -
Re: Unpopular Gaming OpinionsYeah, agreed, although I really need to play KOTR.(Original post by KCosmo)
This brings knights of the old republic/mass effect to mind, the combat isn't what it could be, but the story is just magnificent
For me the best storytelling comes from some of the Final Fantasy games of the past. Unfortunately modern day FFs are nowhere near as good. -
Re: Unpopular Gaming OpinionsI agree that story and characters were (mostly) good, and it had some good gameplay (especially at the end), but overall it just felt really meh. There's something about it that just makes it feel like it really drags. I wouldn't put it in my Top 3 Zeldas.(Original post by Super Cicero)

I don't even think they needed to wait a couple of years to release it, because the 3DS came out not long afterwards. And since Black/White they've been releasing more on the DS while the 3DS has been arguably struggling (well, until December). I think they should wait about 4 more years before Gen 6, and meanwhile release new Pokemon RPG's that are a bit different, like how Colo/XD were different but used a similar gameplay style.(Original post by Super Cicero)

Re: Unpopular Gaming Opinions
People who insult Nintendo clearly know nothing about gaming and haven't actually bothered to play any of their consoles properly and let themselves be fooled by appearances.
TES is a crap series that tries to be open but ends up just being boring and lifeless.
FFXIII and FFXII are good games, but FFVIII is the best.
Playing PC games does not make you a more serious gamer, or a better one.
Playing FPS does not make you a more serious gamer.
Majora's Mask has the best storyline of any Zelda, barring SS possibly. Ocarina of Time is not that great a game, compared to others in the series. -
Re: Unpopular Gaming OpinionsOh god yes! Most of my all time favourite games (including wind waker) were in the Gamecube, sure it didn't do other stuff like playing DVDs or other stuff but it ruled in terms of gaming(Original post by Architecture-er)
Ok, back on topic (somewhat).
Zelda: Windwaker was one of the best Gamecube games.
The Gamecube is the best console to date, both in terms of style, game library, comfortable controllers and everything.

Re: Unpopular Gaming Opinions
Majora's Mask was better than Ocarina of Time.
Jak and daxter games were the best of the ps2.
Every Fifa game since 2005 has been boring.
Rare was the best game developer of the 90's.
Donkey Kong 64 was one of the best games ever.
N64 is by far the best console in terms of games.
Tekken is better than Street Fighter.
Bethesda are losing the midas touch.
Wrestling games provide more entertainment than COD/BF.
Crash Team Racing was better than Mario Kart.
Pokemon games on any other console than the Gameboy Colour are terrible.
Croc was more fun than Crash.
