Any Europa Universalis/Crusader Kings/Victoria/Hearts of Iron game is better than any Total War game.

(On that note, Shogun I and Medieval I are not quite comparable with the later games, but are actually more enjoyable for their simplicity)

Morrowind was a better game than Oblivion.

Achievements generally only take away from gameplay.

For the most part the GTA series is boring as hell
Having played a lot of both PS3 and Xbox 360 I have no opinion as to which is better
Final Fantasy X is the best game in the series
The Nintendo DS has the majority of the most innovative and different games I've ever played
I never really liked the Legend of Zelda games, I always got bored.

    Minecraft is gay.

The wii has a higher standard of players than PS3 does.

I find this statement quite interesting, do you have any examples?
Well, say for instance, Skyrim. Yeah okay great, its got much better graphics than Oblivion and tbh Oblivion's graphics weren't THAT good to begin with. However Oblivion's atmosphere was far superior to that of Skyrim, which really didnt feel very immersive in comparison.

I don't understand why Skyrim is so popular. I love it, but then I loved Morrowind when I was 10 and most of what I feel for Skyrim is my inner 10-year-old being happy that another game of a similar ilk has been brought out. I don't suppose most people are the same (I don't remember anyone in my peer group playing Morrowind, certainly) so I'm curious what the majority of people enjoy about it. That said, I do think it's a fabulous game.

    And heeeeere we go:

MMO's (The Old Republic etc) are almost exclusively terrible and only hurt innovation in gaming. WoW was the first and therefore is the exception.
Oh how this pains me. EverQuest was the first, and still is the best (some might say Ultima Online but I don't count it as it wasn't 3D). WoW didn't do anything new, it's just a straight EQ rip off with an 'easy mode' button applied to make it accessible.

    Apologies, completely forgot about Everquest.

I'm not a fan of MMORPG games at all, and I've put enough hours into numerous titles to know this.

Fair enough. The essence of your original post, about MMOs essentially repeating themselves ad infinitum I do agree with.

GTA3 was not revolutionary. It's essentially a 2D game like the earlier games but in a 3D perspective. Jet Set Radio was far more revolutionary for its style, its soundtrack and its sense of freedom in an urban Japanese environment.

Conker's Bad Fur Day would have been an even better game if they had kept it as Twelve Tales.

Perfect Dark Zero has a fine single player game.

WoW is life-draining nonsense, so are most other MMORPGs.

    CounterStrike is beyond dreadful.

Shadow of the Colossus is not one of the greatest games ever made, but in fact one of the most repetitive games ever made.

Also I hope to see more different games being released, there are so many sand-box, military shooter games out there that it does my head in alittle to be honest.

Same. And has been doing my head in for about 10 years, but there's a game for everybody under all that murky war porn. Just keep searching, lol.

So do i, i especially love going back to my megadrive at home, but i still have equal amounts, if not more, fun when playing newer games because i recognise part of the fun with the old games is nostalgia.

I appreciate everyone is different and you may enjoy them more, i was more arguing against the objective 'old games were always better' view some people take, such a broad statement annoys me :P.

Then again, perhaps, i play more games than the average person, i esecially play more indie titles than most people i know, thus i see more of the 'fun of recent games than the average gamer who buys fifa & cod every year and plays nothing else?

Forget any of the big titles. Amnesia & Bastion are some of the best gaming moments of the past 6 months or so for me.
I did say "sometimes" to avoid generalising too much myself :p:

Yeah, I think some people just say that as a knee-jerk reaction. You need to compare the right games, there's no point me moaning about how COD is bad when I never used to play games like that! (Of course I can still moan that too many games similar to COD are being released and swamping the market, and that developers don't seem to be bothered with making other types of game as much)

I thought amnesia was pretty big, though?

I think I just need to branch out more with my games, I don't have the same amount or (J)RPGs that I had on older platforms (actually... I don't really have any! I guess that explains it :p:)
