Target Medicine Summer School is a non-residential, week-long scheme for Year 11 students from London-based, non-selective state schools. There are 48 places available and the event takes place at UCL’s Archway and Bloomsbury campuses. During the week students are mentored by two medical students and get the opportunity to meet patients, nurses and doctors, engage in simulated emergency clinical situations and visit one of the local hospitals. The summer school helps students find out what life is like as a medical student and as a doctor. It aims to be inspirational and to give students the confidence to pursue medicine as a career. It also puts students in touch with like-minded peers.

Who should apply?

Year 11 students thinking of studying medicine, who attend a London-based, non-selective state school and who have predicted GCSE grade B and above in Maths, English and Science.

Students must be able to attend every day of the summer school to be eligible.

To apply

The application process for the 2012 Summer School will open in January 2012.

Please complete an application form and email your completed form to tmss@ucl.ac.uk by Monday 16 April 2012.

if the Summer School is over-subscribed priority will be given to applications from students who attend Camden, Islington and Haringey non-selective state schools and UCL partnership schools and from students whose parents/guardians have not attended university.

I might apply if I dont get 3A*s in 3 months (to hopefully go Cambridge) but the sole problem about UCL is that it's non-residential.

It's frustrating, because I'd like to apply, but my DofE expedition ends on the 2nd, which is also the first day of the summer school.

The selection process has taken so long due to the sheer number of
students who applied, which of course is fantastic that we are reaching
