Combined Degree
Hey guys, I'm hoping to study Film and Media with Journalism Studies as a joint degree next year at Stirling
It says on the website that to study Film and Media, I need to study two other subjects in my first year. I'm assuming that Journalism Studies will count as one, but will I need to take on another one?
And for anybody else currently doing a joint degree, what is this course split like? How much free reign do I have with my modules and just generally, what is it like?
I'm so excited to be coming to Stirling and I hope to have a positive impact on the community
Any replies will be greatly appreciated

Re: Combined Degree
Do you mean a joint honours degree? A combined degree is where you take the degree with two different universities and get your BA from both of them e.g "The University of Stirling and The University of Berlin award Dalegoatboy the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Film and Media with Journalism Studies".

Re: Combined Degree
Hi,
In my experience, there is the opportunity throughout 1st and 2nd year to take modules within different disciplines. It is in 3rd/4th year when you completely focus upon your chosen course.
Basically- this is good for a number of reasons (in my opinion)- 1. it provides the chance to get different inputs and learning experiences from different areas
2. It allows you to change your degree if you decide your original choice is no longer what you want to do
3. Variety is important and not being submerged entirely in one subject area from day one is refreshing!
It's all about being flexible and allowing students to find a grounding in areas and subjects which they enjoy, can progress in and enjoy the success of.
This is based upon my experience, unfortunately I'm not studying Film and Media so I'm limited in any more advice but I hope this has helped!
