Re: Working for the Body ShopI haven't worked for them but I did a trial. You get a product and you have to try and sell it to the customers that come in. I didn't do very well cos only 1 person came in on my trial :/!(Original post by Lyde)
I used to work for Lush, and now have a trial shift on Saturday for a new job at the Body Shop, after my interview on Monday.
Does anyone here work for them currently, or have worked for them in the past?
Any insights would be very much appreciated

Re: Working for the Body ShopAh, that sounds a lot like the trial shift I had at Lush. That was a bit unfair on you, it's not your fault that only one person came in!(Original post by inksplodge)

So, yeah! -
Re: Working for the Body ShopOh cool, how much do you get p/h?(Original post by Lyde)
I worked with three guys at Lush, and the manager of the Body Shop I'm now working at is a bloke...

Re: Working for the Body ShopLush was £5.93 per hour (NMW) but if you made target as a store each month, you got an extra 10% of your wage for that month. Body Shop is £6.35 per hour then rises to £6.50 per hour after six months.(Original post by Javilionaire)
Oh cool, how much do you get p/h? -
Re: Working for the Body ShopAh right, that's not bad at all.(Original post by Lyde)

Any advice for applying? I literally get rejected for every online job application haha

Re: Working for the Body ShopFor Lush, I took in my CV with a covering letter, the covering letter was the most important part. I wrote about which products I used, why I liked Lush, why I would be right for the job (cringe!) Some people made things/decorated the letter etc., I'm not that skilled!(Original post by Javilionaire)

I then had a group interview with around 8 other people, they took two of us on, and rang to tell us around a week later. At the interview, we had to demo two products and talk about our previous experience etc. The two of us who were successful also had to do a shop floor trial for an hour. I really enjoyed the job, I left when I started Uni as I didn't think I could juggle study/work/my kids, although it turns out I could have. I ended up volunteering for a while.
This past month, I decided to try and find another job rather than volunteering, couldn't go back to Lush as they had kept some of the xmas temps on and had no vacancies. I must have applied to around 30 jobs and only got 3 interviews from the lot, so I feel your pain.
The Body Shop was a more formal process. I applied online and completed their customer service questionnaire, and handed in my CV at the branch. I then had a one-to-one interview with the manager and then a shop trial for half an hour. I honestly think that working for Lush helped me in getting the job massively.
The only other advice I can give you is to just keep trying and not to get too nervous at interview/trial as in jobs like these they want forward, outgoing people who aren't afraid to approach customers. With your online applications, just gear all your answers towards how well you interact with customers, as that is what they look for.
Trust me, I'm really shy, but I've just learned to present myself like that to employers so that I can get and keep my job!Last edited by Lyde; 01-03-2012 at 20:11. -
Re: Working for the Body ShopHey -I recently applied for a job at The Body Shop but I uploaded my CV online. Did you uploads yours online AND hand in a CV and cover letter at a branch too? Also, how long did you have to wait until they invited you for an interview?(Original post by Lyde)

Re: Working for the Body ShopHi! Yes, I was in town and saw the board in the window, so went in and asked how to apply. I had some CVs with me so handed one in (no cover letter though), but I was told that I needed to apply online aswell. Apparently the manager is forwarded suitable applications but he wanted to have a look at the CVs too. The online application has all the customer service questions, and I think that's how they vet the applicants first. IIRC I uploaded a copy of my cv with the online application aswell, just to be thorough.(Original post by Flan!)

It was probably around 3 weeks before I got a phone call asking me to come for an interview, and in that time I'd had quite a few rejections after interview so it happened at the best time really. -
Re: Working for the Body ShopThanks for replying! Perhaps I'll go into the branch I'm applying for and hand my CV in there too; it might be beneficial to see me in person as well(Original post by Lyde)

How're your hours?
-
Re: Working for the Body ShopThanks!

I'm contracted 8 hours but I've already agreed to whatever overtime is available. Next week I'm working Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday! I'm going to save up as much as I can until I start uni in September, and then try and get my 8 hours in around my contact hours. Then work all Summer and save up again for the following year (etc etc)

Re: Working for the Body Shop
Hey, I applied for a job at body shop and have my shop floor trial this Friday! (They called me today!
)
I was wondering what the shop floor trial is like? I am really shy and I'm afraid I won't approach customers in the right way so I am really scared about that. Plus, the lady said if I'm successful in that I'll have a group assessment and a demonstration (I think
)
I was wondering if there were any tips you could give me for my shop floor trial, I really don't wanna mess up and plus I need a job!!
Thanks -
