Re: The DFID one year graduate scheme
Hey guys. Been lurking on this thread for a couple of weeks, waiting in anticipation with you all. I have been lucky enough to get an offer for East Kilbride but thats all I know at this point.
A facebook group would be great to have a chat about whats going on.
Good luck to all those waiting to hear and congratulations to those who have had good news. -
Re: The DFID one year graduate scheme
Peasoup, I am really sorry to hear that you are still waiting. What agony for you and any others still waiting! I am keeping my fingers crossed for Monday.
As for the lucky ones, I created a facebook to help us get in touch with each other. I know there isn't much information yet (at least not for me), but hopefully it will be useful later on (eg. for those looking for housemates in either location).
It's called DFID Graduate Scheme 2012/13. It's a closed group now, but I am happy to change the security settings to make it a secret group (just thought it would be easier to add people this way). Sorry if such a group already exists and I didn't find it.
Have a nice weekend, everyone! -
Re: The DFID one year graduate scheme
Hi Everyone,
I’ve been skulking around this group for a while as well
Unfortunately I was rejected last Friday. But MASSIVE congratulations to those who got in and good luck to those still waiting! I hope you don’t mind, but I wanted to ask a cheeky question to those who got through about their level of experience, e.g. do you have a relevant masters or experience of working in an iNGO?
I’ve just finished an undergraduate degree in a humanities subject and have been involved in general university charity work and volunteering. I really want to pursue a career in international development (I’m interested in the policy and programme side of things) and would find it incredibly helpful to know what tips, if any, you might have from your personal experiences?
Any insight or advice would be hugely appreciated! -
Re: The DFID one year graduate scheme
Hello,
I have just come across this group. I wish I had earlier as I think I could have done with the moral support during the waiting game! I am very happy to have got offered a place in London last week.
I tried to find the group on facebook but I couldn't. Is anybody able to post the link to it on here?
Congratulations to all those that got a place and commiserations to those who didn't. -

Re: The DFID one year graduate scheme
Hi all. For any of you still waiting to hear - I spoke to DfID Recruitment today and they said that all initial places for London and East Kilbride have now been filled. So if you're still waiting to hear, it means you're on a 'reserve' list in case any other GDS positions come up, or if anyone pulls out. Time scale - DfID indicates that anyone on this list is unlikely to hear for another two weeks, minimum (i.e. not before the end of July).
I am one of those people still waiting, (un?)fortunately. Well done to those already accepted and bad luck to those already informed unsuccessful. Fingers crossed for those of us still waiting. -
Re: The DFID one year graduate schemeHi thanks for letting us know. I'm pretty dissapointed to hear we have to wait so much longer . I haven't been able to concentrate on anything for the last two weeks. I am surprised they haven't communicated this information to each of us as the last email from them said we would hear early this week and when I called on Wednesday they seemed to think they would have news on Wednesday and Thursday(Original post by senor_patches)

Did they give you any indication of how many people were on the reserve list or sound optimistic about the prospect of something cropping up? Thanks so much for sharing though.

Re: The DFID one year graduate scheme
I rang once last week and was told that one department had changed its criteria so things were taking longer, and once yesderday when they said the final decisions would be made by today. it seems like everyone is getting a different story. this has been quite a long and frustrating process!

Re: The DFID one year graduate scheme
Hey. I think that the person I spoke to sounded reasonably optimistic. She said they are hoping to create new graduate positions, but won't know for a couple of weeks. I'm afraid I can't give any more indication with regards to our success than that. I didn't ask how many people were on this list, or how many positions they were planning on creating.
Has anybody else heard any different today? They really should send an e-mail round confirming the current situation so candidates still waiting to hear aren't getting fed, and therefore circulating, different stories.
