Re: Which sport is better. Football or cricketWhich of course, it is.(Original post by Abbadon27)
It's going to be a subjective thing. Saying one is better than the other is like saying yellow is better than purple. -
Re: Which sport is better. Football or cricketNo cuz I'm not good at playing cricket(Original post by ideas4life)
....because its boring?

Re: Which sport is better. Football or cricket
Nevermind the greatest sport, cricket is the greatest activity mankind has ever invented. The perfect balance of individual and team sport, the intellectual cat-and-mouse of spin bowling juxtaposed against the ever-present threat of violence of pace bowling.
It's no coincidence that all the best sports books are about cricket: its because cricket is a game that truly earns the appreciation of intellectuals. If cricket is the finest wine known to man, then football is a pint of wifebeater that someone's pissed in... and this is from someone who quite likes football. -
Re: Which sport is better. Football or cricketIf football fans had to wait around for six hours for the clouds to move, they'd probably be able to pen decent books too.(Original post by py0alb)

Cricket is played by proper sportsman, football is played by a bunch of pre - madonna's -

Re: Which sport is better. Football or cricket
I love cricket as do i love football, but people who say cricket is boring i call rubbish! The t20 world cup had some exhilarating matches in it compared to the world cup in football which was pretty boring. Both sports have the boring moments and brilliant moments but to just dismiss cricket as boring old people watching the clouds pass by is absurd.
Watching it id have to say cricket because some of the one day internationals and 20-20's are bloody exciting. But playing id have to say football since im not as good at cricket as i am football and i have a tendency to go into a pretty aggressive batting mode and get out quite easily. -

Re: Which sport is better. Football or cricket
Sometimes football can be desperately, painfully dull. Entire matches can finish with barely a half chance on goal, or even three decent passes strung together, just 90 minutes of niggly fouls and head tennis. I should know, I've sat through enough of these bloody games.
In contrast, I've never seen a dull game of test cricket. They just don't exist. You always get to watch either a dominant display of brilliant cricket or a tense heartbreaker.
If I had to watch one sport for all eternity, it would be a difficult decision between test cricket and 6 nations rugby. -

In terms of playing the sport...
Football:
It is fun and is a very good form of exercise. It is not fun however if you are not a good player and the people on your team are to competitive, then they will neglect you in terms of passing the ball to you, which is not fun.
I believe it is easier to play football that cricket.
Cricket:
At first may seem a difficult sport to play, in terms of bowling and batting. Once you get the feel for it, it is very good sport, particularily if you wish to go into cricket, and play league matches.
In terms of watching the sport or going to see a match in a stadium.
Football is better, as it is 90 minutes per match and cricket matches are much longer especially test matches.
But if you are a fantastic/above average or average cricketer, then yes it is better than football. -

A good analogy is a hollywood blockbuster and a great novel.
Football is like a hollywood blockbuster: easy to get into, simple to follow, requires very little intellectual input from the audience, and ultimately an entertaining, if somewhat unsatisfying way to spend a couple of hours.
Cricket is like a great novel: it requires a little hard work to get into, but once you do, it grips you and never lets go, a life changing experience that lives with you forever and leaves you a better, wiser person.
There are some people who eat McDonalds, drink fosters, who like pop music and action movies. They like things to be simple, predictable and to require no effort on their part. These people are natural football fans.
Then there are some people who prefer rare steak, craft beer, complex music, and great works of art. They like things to be challenging, interesting, and intellectually stimulating. These people are natural cricket fans.
Its not better or worse, its just different.
