I'd say Panns Bank for accommodation. As for the nightlife I don't really go to clubs, more of a pub person and Sunderland has really good pubs =) Other than that have cinema, bowling, buffet restaurants etc. I'll let other people answer your question about the music scene =) haha! There is a bar called 'bar one' though that holds gigs for local + up and coming bands =D
