Re: Oxford Applicants for 2013 EntryWhat course will you be applying for?(Original post by Tratto)
Surely
I asked especially to know if there could be any problem with the porter or similar, in case of a big luggage

Re: Oxford Applicants for 2013 EntryThat's quite an application aha!(Original post by cheese-lemming)

Re: Oxford Applicants for 2013 EntryDon't worry, especially if your school doesn't offer the EPQ.(Original post by okonomiyaki)
Is it bad that I have no idea what an EPQ is? Do you register to do one yourself or does school run said course? I feel like not having done one is going to make me look bad.
It's basically just a nice way to do some independent research into something and write it up (which is great to talk about in the Personal statement and at interviews). But it's not required; grades are the main focus of most top universities. -
Re: Oxford Applicants for 2013 Entry
Hey people!
I'm hoping to apply for Engineering Science, but unfortunately I don't have any GCSE's. I've got an A* in maths and I'm waiting on my results for physics/f.maths which will probably be A*A or A*A* if I'm lucky and I'd expect to do quite well on the PAT. I'm also hoping to take computing and chemistry a-levels in 2012-2013.
Do you think my lack of GCSE's would affect my chances too bad? -
Re: Oxford Applicants for 2013 EntryAFAIK if you weren't in the English education system when you should have been doing your GCSEs, then it's completely fine if you don't have any. Many people apply without GCSE equivalents, as most countries only issue equivalent qualifications to A-Levels. I imagine there might be other circumstances under which you simply couldn't take GCSEs, and Oxford would understand that. I don't know your personal situation, but if you're still worried it might be best to e-mail the admissions so they can reassure/advise you.(Original post by hevlar.kelmet)

Re: Oxford Applicants for 2013 EntryNo, don't worry. Loads of people get in without an EPQ and a lot of schools don't even offer it.(Original post by okonomiyaki)

Re: Oxford Applicants for 2013 Entry
Stayed at Oriel last night, rooms were great, fairly big and a massive impressive looking desk
Foods pretty decent as well
Out of the other colleges I saw Merton looks one of the best based on looks alone.
First time I've ever been to Oxford and all the buildings are awesome
Computer science talk this morning wasn't too convincing though...Last edited by iCiaran; 27-06-2012 at 16:51. -

Tip: keep ALL your Oxford stuff (past papers, interview texts, maps) in a separate folder, not your UCAS one! It's so useful, trust me! I bequeathed mine to my school today

Re: Oxford Applicants for 2013 EntryBoooo Cam(Original post by Kidioteque)
So to those who went to the open day today, what did you think? I really loved it - University College is my favourite, I think, closely followed by St John's and Corpus
Cambridge has a lot to live up to next week!
They are all lovely colleges! How did you find the city & course?
I've officially been converted from Oriel to LMH

Re: Oxford Applicants for 2013 EntryHaha, I still have absolutely no idea which one I'll end up applying to - if either!(Original post by _becca)

I'm really regretting not seeing Magdalen
I loved the city - I'm from Birmingham, so in terms of size and busyness Oxford is actually a welcome reprieve, despite the horrendous number of tourists! The course (Law) looks good, although I'm a bit dubious about 1) having all the exams crammed into the end of the third year, and 2) the fact that there are only 2 optional modules. Those won't majorly influence my decision though! I just really hate the admissions test, so I'm a tad worried about that.
How did you find it?
I visited both - liked Wadham a lot! Balliol is technically great but it just didn't 'click' with me...personal preference though!(Original post by burza)
I was almost certain about Wadham, but after today I'm seriously in love with Balliol! Oh, whatever.. (Applying for English)

Sorry to break it to you but today was actually fairly quiet for a sunny day in June in Oxford!
last year's open day you couldn't move for all the visitors, it was a sweaty affair. ew.
If you liked Corpus and Oriel you'll probably love Magdalen - it's like those 2 but just bigger, grander and plain cuter, it's beautiful! Plus, it has a frickin deer park haha. There's always a September open day if you're still stuck!
Oh, if you PM me your email I can put you in touch with my friend who was accepted last year for Law? He got through the system, may have some useful tips? The LNAT is supposed to be a beast
I quite enjoyed today! Managed to meet some of the tutors which is nice. Obviously they're not going to remember you come interviews but it's nice to know what you're getting yourself into haha. x -
Re: Oxford Applicants for 2013 EntrySo are you a reapplicant? Or were you just uber-keen last year?(Original post by _becca)

Haha, I may go back in September and check out Magdalen - I saw Corpus and Oriel and thought they were both very nice. At the moment it's looking like a toss-up between St John's and Univ though, with the latter just about edging it! The only problem with University College as far as I'm concerned it that I don't like the name very much
Yeah that would be really really useful - thank you! Will PM you
Sounds like you made good use of the day - what are you applying for?
-

and yeah, I'm a reapplicant. Messed up on the interviews last year, there are so many things I could have done better. Hopefully I know a tad more now
I'm applying for English. See my comments about the aptitude test - you need similar skills in the ELAT and LNAT. I've heard Law students often go abroad in later years - is this true? (not jealous at all...)
You can't just not go for a college because you don't like the name!!
hahaha. It is rather confusing though. Is it called Univ because it's the oldest college and presumably was "the university" before it expanded? I'm not even sure if it is the oldest college... anyway.
