Stuart Pearce has announced then that Parker will captain the side tonight.

Thoughts? Was he the right choice, and do you think it will be a one off?

But this isn't a permanent decision. It's just a friendly so there's no real need for any outrage.

Hart, Ashley Cole, Gerrard, Rooney. They all deserve it more than Parker.

Caps mean sweet **** all.

Good player, good work rate, good captain potential. Coupled with a freindly game, with a squad that is developing and a few experienced/older players less likely to start, and the fact this one game is just that.. one game .. there is nothing wrong with the decision.

Great Professional, doesn't have controversies against him. But is he a leader in the England set up? I doubt it considering he only has a few caps. But still while Terry, Rio, Cole, Gerrard, Lampard and Rooney are in the squad, I think they will remain the real leaders on and off the pitch, regardless of who gets chosen as captain.

Cole = Complete **** who doesn't have a cool head at all.
Gerrard = We want a long-term captain, not one who may leave after the Euros.
Rooney = Doesn't have a cool head and will be missing for the start of the Euros.

Parker = The best decision when looking at the other candidates.

But his top level experience still remains limited. I don't think it's a good decision regardless of whether it's for one game or not.

I think it will be good for the squad to have a captain who can keep his face out of the tabloids so im pretty happy with him.

Isn't Casilles the captain for Real Madrid and Spain? Yep that decision seems to be holding them back..
Cole = one of the most experienced players. You make it sound like he gets regularly sent off and into fights or something. He's a model professional on/off the pitch in terms of his footballing. He's a **** in his personal life, I'll agree there.
Gerrard = would make sense to have the best person as captain
Rooney = seems to have generally matured. He gets the armband at Utd sometimes doesn't he?
Parker = who's to say he'll retain his England spot afte the Euros? No guarantees he'll make it to the world cup.

Parker is the same age as Gerrard so that is not a reason to favour him though I do think that Parker is a better option than anyone other than Gerrard.

Anyway, this is only one match and maybe the reason why Gerrard hasn't been picked as captain is because he isn't starting?

I really like Parker for Spurs, but he has hardly established himself as a 1st team regular for england. i dont know what the problem is giving it to stevie g, hes by far the best candidate.
