    Hi all

I sent a FOI request to Brighton and have got their response back here. They also gave a copy of their interview form that they had used to grade candidates as well as some data that I had asked for.

Is there anyone thinking of doing this to specialise as a sports medicine doctor? I am loving the sound of that career but I need more info first.

How is medicine? obviously i'm not expecting it to be a breeze but is it do-able? I know this depends a lot on the person but how interesting do you find it? do you get to see how your knowledge is applied? because for me I have to see how something is applied for it to be interesting.
Also for those of you that are thinking of specialising as sports medicine doctors what is the speciaiist training like? someone told me it was like 8 years of training once you've done your degree? you get to work during these 8 years right? and also how hard is it to specialise?

    Many thanks

well the how is medicine you sort of answered yourself. From what I have heard from my friends in uni, it isnt the hardest degree, but its one of the most intense degrees. I suppose you will always see the result of your application its just that other specialities will see it at different rates (surgeon instantly, whilst gp over a peroid of time). I dont know about the 8 years training, I thought it was 2 years foundation +3-5 specialisation, it could well be 8 years... but yeah you get to work . Everything is competitive in medicine.

Yh you do different things in the years someone did the breakdown for me but I forgot :/

It seems that the grade boundaries are really hard aswell compared to everything else like newcastle for instance you need to get 3 As on the first attempt and some you need 6 gcses at A grade, I've got 2A*s 3As and 5Bs :/

    Yeah, its quite cold

How'd you get all that information? Do universities release them to just anyone? I know it took a few emails for them to just reply me about entry requirements...

I made a freedom of information request. They are legally obliged to respond to those within 20 working days.

    To all Brighton Applicants

I am going to close the request I have made to Brighton Medical School on Sunday. If there is any information that Brighton have failed to provide without reason, please do let me know. I cannot read through all the data that they provide and only flick through it so if I miss anything I will need to be informed. I will close my request soon so do let me know sooner rather than later.

    Thanks

what kind of people are likely to get an interview first? like kings seem to give interviews based on GCSEs first and georges need you to meet UKCAT and neither really look at statement until later. just wondering if anyone has any insight? TIA

The academic side is scored with GCSE grades but as they say that they recognise individuals develop in different ways therefore strong AS score can compensate for weak GCSEs. Also 4 A's at AS get you full academic marks as long as your GCSEs are above the minimum requirements

The PS score is the same as most unis motivation to study medicine, evidence of work experience, empathy, extra curricular, strong attributes shown etc.

In your case where you are resitting BSMS say:
BSMS will consider re-sit applicants. However, due the large number of applications that we receive, we will ordinarily only consider applications from individuals who have slipped a grade in one subject and obtained a B (plus 2 A grades). You will be required to be predicted, and subsequently to attain, an A in the subject that you are re-taking to be eligible for consideration.

    this may help

    hope it helped
