    Catered Halls
Ive resently be looking on the reading university website at the accomodation , and im a little unclear about the catered option. Do you have to pay for meals on top of rent ( sorry if this an obvious question ). I will apply for self-catered as im very capable to feed myself but i get the impression that the cheaper self-catered halls (wessex and St George) are going to be popular so im trying to keep my options open. I just dont want to pay £130 for a room a week that comes with the newer halls.

I thought that it was unclear 3 years ago when I applied so I sent the accommodation office an email asking all my questions ( if i remember rightly I numbered them 1 to 20 haha). They have a quick response which is very good. Alternatively, you can phone them and ask.
I, however am of no use to you as my halls have been knocked down. I do think though that the rent you pay is inclusive of food (mine was), but non catered students can eat at park eat which is where most of the catered students eat anyway, but you have to pay.

This link http://www.fmd.reading.ac.uk/Events_...tial_Catering/ explains all about the catering system. The catered package fee that's mentioned is automatically added to the 'rent' of the hall in question and the total is the advertised hall room fee.

Applying for catered halls doesn't mean you aren't capable of feeding yourself! I food-shop and cook (from fresh ingredients) for my family every night of the week but I'm still applying for catered halls.
