Re: Who has been to or goes to London met?
Just read the reply you guys posted. Nope I don't work in London Met and also don't get paid to write that. I wrote it through my experiences in Londonmet. Seems like you guys have a big hype about Oxbridge. I went to there events and applied as a international student and they offered me the place. I wouldn't question about OxBridge, but its all about money they care about. Because they know I will pay 20K+ for my Masters so they don't bother where am I getting the degree from.
Let me explain you why London Met in bottom ranked. Its nothing to do with students but only to do with Brain Roper previous vice chancellor who decided not to go for ranking in 2003. So Londonmet wan't in ranking for 8 years due to that. As far I checked when it was University of North London, was ranked 62 and after amalgamation it lost the ranking because of one bad vice chancellor. Its not a bad university but the student they recruit aren't up to the standard. I can give 100s example about Londonmet's graduates who are in top position in industry. But the real problem once they get the position, they don't come back to represent the uni. Please try google this name Stepan Lucyszyn, itjust one example, can give you loads...I'm not saying its the best but it has potential to be a middle class uni in future judging the new Vice Chancellor's initiatives.
Still you guys would be arguing and to be honest everyone has the right express. Feel free whatever you wanna say. If you don't wanna study in this uni, then go to OxBridge, who asked you to study in LondonMet. LOL
I bet they will be charging more money from this year, so think twice before you get into there. End of the day your result speaks for yourself, I don't see any point you wouldn't get a job if you have gained your relevant skill.
I even know you will start bullying to this uni? I know you guys, last time one of the students asked in this forum whether he could get into Russell Group universities with 2.2 and you guys advised he should look for an odd job. He ended up in Manchester Uni and got 2.1 from there, later a good job in industry. So just **** it. -
Re: Who has been to or goes to London met?Theres a fine line between Manchester Metropolitan, lol and the University of Manchester. Your making me laugh so hard with term Manchester University, its as if to say there both on the same level. Having said that, it is a university that offers foundation courses, so it would pretty much take anyone provided you were interested. Other Russell Group universities such as LSE/UCL don't take just take anyone.(Original post by ash87cs)

Re: Who has been to or goes to London met?
By the way I meant University of Manchester formerly known University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, not the Manchester Metropolitan University which was a Polytechnic like London Met before 1992. I believe you are clear now what I meant when I said Manchester Metropolitan University. As I said if a student don't have the quality, how would you expect to do well unless they are hard worker and have the intention to do well. Most of the London Met students aren't up to the standard previously, but this year I noticed they are recruiting good students, because those students are from poor family background with good result, but they don't have the money to support themselves in Russell Group Universities. People will always point fingers on Post 92 universities due to their quality of research on various fields.

Re: Who has been to or goes to London met?It costs the same to go to a Russell Group University as it does a university like Met. University isn't for everyone, Im actually thinking that myself and Ive got a place at UCL. Im a hard worker in terms of sport and I wanted to be starting shortstop for the New York Yankees, but that isn't going to happen. I don't see how you can define a good student as someone with bad grades.(Original post by ash87cs)

Re: Who has been to or goes to London met?
I didn't join up here to defend LonMet but ..... AspiringLawStudent saying that someone who has D's & E's have no right to attend Uni is appalling. LonMet is a cultural diverse university, many of the students come from backgrounds where they are the first in the entire family to go. They may not know how to pass their 11plus, may come from undesirable postcodes and rubbish, bottom of the league table schools, they may have just scraped through - but they may still want to go to university. Maybe they do not want to or cannot get into other universities so LonMet is a great place for them to go.
I was shocked initially that I ended up here with my qualifications and sometimes I can only smh - I live in Chelsea, have my own business... but that is precisely why I go! I want to be local, I want to have flexibility, I want to do my own thing and LonMet suits me down to the ground.
I am doing very well at Lon Met, despite cuts and politics, my module selection has been fine and I am on track for a first. If you want to go into teaching around London I def recommend it. I will be applying for a MA in Librarianship and was fortunate to have been taught by an Absolute Legend twice and been introduced to several Children's Lit Authors and been placed at an Amazing Library in North London to do my Work Experience. -
Re: Who has been to or goes to London met?
@SloaneRanger - a good student can get bad grades, just as a great worker can do a crap job.
What is education for?
To be a good worker or is education something we should all know?
I have employed 7 people over the years and I can honestly say qualifications are nothing when it comes to skill/work ethic - do not think yourself superior to others because of the pieces of paper that you have! -
