hey, i'm maxine from Malaysia...got an unconditional! so i'll be seeing you guys this october

currently undecided about whether to stay in LSE halls or the intercollegiate
Hey firstly I want to apologise hugely for thumb downing your comment D= I was trying to quote it but I accidentally hit the thumb down button...last time I try doing that in a iPhone in the middle of the night! So I'm really really sorry I've liked to see if I can change it or do anything but it seem not...do I'm going to give you a positive thumbs up for your other conmen and hope it somehow cancels it out in a round about way! Sorry once again! I feel terrible now =\

Now to what I was going to say before the terrible incident, congrats and hi there! I'm liz nice to meet you, though understandably you might not feel the same after accident I did =(
I was thing intercollegiate over LSE ones purely because they seem to be a nicer environment with more facilities etc plus I have my eye on the garden halls =D
But it seems the intercollegiate are more expensive but I was think maybe I'd have more chance for an en-suite. Who knows! =D

Hey! no worries about that thumb-down-ing accident; i didnt even notice!
I think my main dilemma about the accommodation is the distance from the campus. and also if i should get a twin sharing  sigh, but i've heard that the majority of students don't even get their top 3 choices!

Well I think all the accommodation is pretty much within walking distance which is good, with the max being about half an hour walk away from the uni.

And yeah I really don't think I could cope with sharing unless I knew the person =/ If I had to share I have a feeling we would have a complete personality clash or something terrible like that!

Oh dear...that sounds bad! Hopefully we'll be lucky and get one we actually wanted! Do you have any idea which ones you'd like? Such as Intercollegiate vs. LSE halls or even specific one? =)

I think i'll try either for a shared at High Holborn/Northumberland, or single at carr-saunders. how about you? i'm afraid about the walking distance especially during winter - i'm not quite accustomed to the cold since Malaysia is always too sunny.

I'm going for singles at Bankside and Rosebery, with shared at Passfield only because it looks sooo nice! Aww well you could always take the tube/bus when you get accustomed to it, but I don't think cold is a problem with me =L I live up north much colder than London! Whenever I go to HK i'm always dying from the heat, I have to live with air-con permanently on =L

    Hi there

I don't think GCSE's matter so much for LSE, I would have though it was only really for Oxbridge. But then again I don't actually know, however I do know that it's really all about your A levels. So rather than being worried about your GCSE's i'd say be focused on getting really good A levels, considering LSE's standard law offer is A*AA.

I'm not sure whether LSE are too bothered about your extra curricular hobbies etc. I hardly do anything and for my work exp I only had 2 weeks at a law firm, but I got an offer so...yeah it's grades really. You would probably be looking at straight A's at AS and being able to get atleast one A* at A2 min.

Hope that helped! If you have any more questions feel free to ask

Well I have my offer from them =L and from my current A2 results it looks more or less like i'm going to meet my offer without too much problem. So I should be doing law at LSE come October.

Because I don't really know much about the GCSE stuff, I had a quick scour of the LSE's website for you and found this 'Academic profile (predicted and achieved grades)
Successful applicants for this course are, usually, predicted A*AA in their A level examinations (or 38 and above IB points). Most have already achieved excellent GCSE grades including the majority at A* and A. The Law selectors consider not just the number of top GCSE grades that you have, but also your overall GCSE subject profile and regard the GCSE English Language grade, in particular, as a sound indicator of ability.'

I have 12 A*'s and 3 A's at GCSE so I'm stereotypical of what's described above. Truthfully it does get more and more competitive each year, there's been a lot of fuss about exams being easier and the numbers of students getting A*'s is constantly on the rise. So I wouldn't doubt that competition is bad. But there's nothing you can really do about it but try to keep up or stay ahead of the game! =)

No problem, i'm sure you'll do well in your exams come a month or so's time!

In terms of personal statement again I tailored mine to be Oxbridge specific than general. So I haven't really mentioned anything on extra curricular things when generally you put them in. But it got me into an interview (along with my grades and reference etc) at Cambridge so it mustn't have been too bad! So I think you'd probably follow the general personal statement format than what I did unless you are thinking of going for Oxbridge, and I can't quite remember what the general one is like. You will get that information round the middle of year 12.

Sure when I have time to find it in all my documents, i'll send you a copy. I might have to cut a bit of the personal stuff out at the start =L I don't think you need my life story in it!

For general Uni rep only Oxbridge beats LSE for a law course ; if you're certain you will actually work in law, again only Oxbridge is better! Studying in London makes internships/pupilages easier too.

Thanks... yes I too believe that studying in London makes internships- pupilages easier as it's where the Royal Courts of Justice are etc.
Are you wanting to study law too?

    Hey =)

Gosh sorry about taking such a long time to reply, i've been getting into exam mode...so i've not been on.

I'm guessing the deadline has passed so I won't be much help :/ But I did firm indeed and I would have said the things which made me firm it over all the other choices were exactly what mournfulpirate said. The prestige, and the easy access to the law firms and opportunities in London. I hope your decision making went okay and you picked where you truly wanted to go And if you firmed LSE then I hope to see you come October!

Oh good luck in your exams if you're taking them this summer too!!

Hey can anyone tell me whether we are required to take a pre-sessional course for Law? The reason I ask this is because while applying for accommodation, it asked me: "Do any of the courses you may be pursuing during the year necessitate your attending a pre-sessional course."

    Thank you!
