I would say three weeks of revision for the UKCAT...at most. If you start any earlier you run the risk of running out of revision material pretty quickly
    I know right.
But I feel bad/guilty of not doing nothing at all.
I did very poorly last time and spent roughly a month on it :emo:

Maybe start off small. Do an hour a day for the first week or so then build up as you get closer.

Btw guys, if I didn't do any work exp this july/august before applying to medicine, would it be a disadvantage to me?
i didnt do any extra work exp. medically related on my gap, and did nothing over the summer bar my part time job and i managed to get an offer
so long as you can speak about what youve learnt from what youve already done you'll be fine!

I really don't like the job description of the HCA so what type of job did you do? Where was your offer from btw? And well done

i just got a job as a receptionist mon-fri and i worked in a cafe on the weekends, saved all my money and went to australia after the ucas cycle was over!
nothing i did was slightly medically related but i don't really think that matters, i had 2 and a half days from the 1st time i applied which was enough to talk about! plus i think its a good thing to see other career paths, you get a much broader knowledge of things!

my offer was from leeds, after 3 more rejections the unconditional was the best!
    thank you

ALOT! go on to the NHS job site and look if you want to be restricted, I am myself am working in intl public health/emergency care/risk reduction at the moment. Look anywhere, not just for the usual jobs and find something that stands out a bit

Awwwww, you poor thing! I feel for you, I absolutely hate it. I used the 600Q book (but not for quantitative because it's too hard), the UKCAT mock papers, and some of these questions and tips http://www.getintomedicine.co.uk/ because they were free
I also used an old GCSE Maths revision book for the quantitative skills
I am so glad theyre free!!! Have my UKCAT next week so practicing like mad!

Hi, when you apply for these jobs, are you meant to state that you are a Gap year student ?

    Re: 2013 Medicine Re-Applicants
    A bit of a dilemma:

I don't really want to work as an HCA, so what other jobs can I pursue?
I've seen a lot but they don't interest.
The thought of being a waiter/sales assistant bores me too

Train with St Johns ambulance and get a job in that field. My old college peer is currently working 2 jobs with them.

I've just been on the phone with someone from the nursing agency and they told me I needed 6 months paid work as opposed to the 6 months voluntary work that I have, can anyone help? How did people get their very first paid employment as a carer?

Best of luck to everyone reapplying next year! Don't be disheartened by your first application, now you've got a chance to put everything right and get an unconditional offer

I was a 2012 re-applicant and it was so worth it! Also, everyone I know who chose to reapply got in the second time around - I honestly believe you've all got a great chance I'm happy to give help & advice so feel free to ask.

Well considering im guessing your 18 with no prior experience not much...
Just do the job get some experience, if you don't want to be a HCA because it doesnt interest you wait until your a medical student on ward rounds or replacing bandages
