How does the marking work for Edexcel Maths GCSE?
Hello I was just wondering if anyone knows how the Edexcel Maths Unit1-3 marking works
The first unit 1 exam was taken in march 2011 (i think)
the unit 2 exam was taken in 14th novemeber 2011 but the retake was also yesterday, edexcel give the mark on the results sheet out of 120, whereas the exam paper is out of 60.. Are the examiners simply doubling the mark? or do other things affect it.
Also the Unit 3 exam is worth 40%, whereas the other 2 were worth 30, does this mean itll be out of 120 again?
I'm aiming for an A, and an A is usually 96.. so is an A overall 288?
Can someone please help, thanks! -

The marks out of 120 are UMS (Uniform Mark Scheme) marks. Unit 1 and Unit 2 are out of 120 UMS. Unit 3 is out of 160 UMS (if you are aiming for an A you should presumably be able to see why?). The whole qualification is 400 UMS. An A grade is 320 UMS.

Re: How does the marking work for Edexcel Maths GCSE?Clearly I can't count but I'm not sure it is worth bumping a year old thread for this.(Original post by bbadonde2)
Out of 400 and 340 for A*. So I got 116 + 101 = 217 so need 123 for A*, easy! -

A* is 90% UMS.
400 x 0.9 = 360UMS, not 340UMS. So you need 143UMS for an A* at least.Last edited by ThatPerson; 27-03-2013 at 20:11.
