New Birkbeck students starting this year friend making thread!
Hi, I don't know if anyone is interested but I just wanted to make a thread for people like me who (very hopefully anyway) will be starting Birkbeck this September/October.
I won't know anyone and I've seen others out there the same so thought it might be good to make friends before we start maybe :-) -
Re: New Birkbeck students starting this year friend making thread!I'm not sure, I think it will depend on the course in question - try here http://www.bbk.ac.uk/study/pg/(Original post by ajo104)
Hi there... I'm facing the question to choose a school now. Birkbeck is a night school? Do you have any idea what is the course given time for full-time postgraduate program?
BTW, I'm onto a MSc.
Their website is pretty informative!
I'm not on the same course but I'll be 26 this September, I don't know if that counts as similar age ;-)(Original post by Chamberlain)
BSc Business
Full time
21 years old.
Anyone else in my course or similar age?
I'm not sure on this either, I'm still waiting to see if they want to interview me. I'm sure it won't be too formal, I've 'heard' they're quite informal. But I'm not sure they'll let you know right there, I'd guess that they might write to you afterwards formally offering you a place. Check out their website it might have some information on 'what happens after you apply'.(Original post by Lissyki)

Re: New Birkbeck students starting this year friend making thread!
Hey everyone, i've accepted an unconditional offer to study Politics, Philosophy and History (BA) this October. Can't wait to make new friends here before uni starts.
I'm 18, btw. I don't think age really matters, it's just a number.
Cheers, hope to find more people going to bbk here. -

Hey Abdull (first name right?) nice to meet you, looks like we'll attend the same course (History) or at least some of the same courses concerning history
Did you apply for an accommodation yet?
Hey Lorenzo. Haha, it's Abdullah.
Likewise, great to meet you too. Finally i have found someone who is studying the same course!
I will apply by monday. Which hall is your first choice?
Cheers.

Re: New Birkbeck students starting this year friend making thread!
Hey Abdullah (excuse my error
)
My first choice was Connaught Hall, for it's not too expensive and quite close to the college... Anyways, I can't wait to start, when did you attend the interview?
And yeah it's good to know at least some of our future college mates
Cheers -
Re: New Birkbeck students starting this year friend making thread!
Cool I'm glad people are meeting and making friends!!! Nice that you guys have met and are on the same course!!!
I don't think age matters either, I have friends of all kinds of ages :-)
I'm moving down with my partner though and it's quite hard to find a flat where we're going. I also have to travel into Birkbeck on the train 1/2 hour journey!! I can't wait though I'm so excited to start.

If anyone is doing any language course at Birkbeck or nearby unis, maybe Spanish, I'd be interested in making friends

Re: New Birkbeck students starting this year friend making thread!Hey, my first choice is Connaught Hall too! Did you choose a single, small single or a shared twin?(Original post by Lore92)

I didn't have an interview, they just sent an unconditional offer after i applied through UCAS.
Hope we both end up in Connaught Hall.
Cheers. -
Re: New Birkbeck students starting this year friend making thread!
Wow, nicely done then

I had had some problems with my A-levels (our final exam is kind of different from the British one) and so some of the unis I had applied to rejected me.
Shared rooms were among my first choices, single rooms are generally way too expensive... -
Re: New Birkbeck students starting this year friend making thread!
yeah I'm really happy indeed to go to Bbk.
My first choices were Connaught hall (shared room), and Nutford house (In order: shared, small single and standard single). Nutford is among the cheaper even though it's 30 minutes walk away from Bbk. Well not too bad, I love walking and hey, it's London
Your first ones? -
Re: New Birkbeck students starting this year friend making thread!I speak Spanish fluently so would not mind to practice with you.(Original post by akemikat)

I study Japanese at Birkbeck.

Re: New Birkbeck students starting this year friend making thread! My preferences were Connaught hall (shared, single), Garden hall (single room), International hall (single room) and then Nutford house (shared, small single, standard single). In that order.(Original post by Lore92)

Garden and International halls are 11-12 minutes walk from Bbk.
Haha, couldn't agree with you more, but i believe the closer the better. Connaught is the closest and also the most reasonable one. Hopefully we'll be successful in getting a room there.
