One of the beautys of the aurora is it's unpredictability! Cambridge may be a bit far south though, you might be lucky enough to get a bit of a glow very low on the horizon, but i wouldn't hold out much hope!

Am I right in saying that there's a period every 50 or so years where the Northern Lights can be seen really far south? There was a battle during the American Civil War in Virginia (Fredericksburg?) when they were seen...

Agree, had the chance to see them in Norway and they are simply incredible. It's like the whole sky is set on fire and becomes a stage for a celestial play ...
Haven't actually seen any in real life, but would like to go to Norway/Iceland and see them some time
