Anyone studying English and American Literature this September? (Or currently!)
    Hello,

I'm new to these forums and I have been confirmed a place on the course this year. Basically I transferred from one course to another after realising it wasn't the right course for me, and I'm currently on leave of absense waiting for September! Glad in a way because I have plenty of time to work and save money.

I've been sent the reading list and been working through it. Almost finished "The English Patient".

Hello - I'm also new to Student Room!

I've received an Unconditional for English and American Literature and am definitely thinking about putting it as my firm choice.

How did you get hold of the reading list? Have you been for an open/visit day? What did you think of Keele?

    Hey!

I'm currently a second year (scarily close to being a third year!) and I study English as part of a dual honours, although I have a few friends doing English and American Lit They give you the reading lists before you come, or in the introductory lectures in Freshers' Week. I say this, but it will depend from module to module. Waterstone's on campus are pretty ace about having all your core texts as well, I've never had trouble trying to get hold of something I needed.
I love Keele, it's friendly, supportive and the tutors in English are great, as are the other students that come here!

    Hope that's sort of helpful!

    That is helpful. Thank you!
I'm glad you're enjoying it there - would have made me even more nervous if you had said that you weren't! What's Newcastle-Under-Lyme and Stoke like? I've never been to either other than on the Visit Day and so don't really know what they're like or what to expect.

Keele is a really nice university - I only studied there for a year but I really loved it. I only left because my course just wasn't working out for me. My girlfriend has been there for undergrad, masters and now her PhD and she does some teaching in the American Studies department - I'm pretty certain that I'm going to have to drag her away from there screaming. She really loves it that much!

You'll hear mixed things about Stoke because there are a few areas that aren't too nice but as a student at Keele you'll never need to go to them. I grew up in Stoke and really like it. It is currently undergoing major redevelopment, especially around Hanley (new shopping centre, entertainment buildings and bus station!) so just avoid the building sites and you'll be fine.

I lived in Newcastle for a while and it's a really nice place with bars, cinemas and more entertainmenty things but most of the shopping is based in Hanley. The people are generally lovely in both areas.

I'm hopefully studing English and American Lit at Keele this September On an open day last year, I was given a small pack of which has an essay plan we have to do? Did anyone else get this? It says the essay plan has to be submitted by August 15, 2011?

PLEASE could you send me the reading list? I'm going on holiday soon and want to get started on some reading

If you could send it to me, I'd be really grateful I've looked everywhere online and cannot find it! Thanks
