I have had enough of this. going for a quick pre-exam nap. Good luck and remember what the questions/answers were to compare and predict later! good luck everyone

hope this helped:smile:

Found it, yay, thanks

Do have a link to the paper aswell?

No significance in the data

It means the results may be due to chance

Thank you!

S.D is probably the one thing I'm not that comfortable on, hope it doesn't come up too much :/

I'd love the 6 marker to be on antibiotics or haemoglobin. It's so easy getting marks on that. I dont think you could say enough about insects for 6 marks to be fair?

Insects would be a really good one to get a 6 marker on - there's loads to talk about. I think they'll do it on Mitosis/Meiosis or Ethics on Selective Breeding

Haemoglobin is unlikely as the 6 marker, transport of oxygen came up as the 6 marker in Jan which is basically Hb :tongue:

what would we talk about if it was about ethic on SB? could u give an example?

I believe Hb was in a fairly recent paper so I don't think it's gonna appear.

But for insects

Waterproof exoskeleton;
rigid to prevent insects drying out;
Spiracles;
limit exposure of respiratory surface
(spiracles) are sunken;
so traps moist air;
lead to trachea which branch into tracheoles;
cuticle lined so water is only lost via tracheoles;
ventilation;
mass movements of air into tracheoles;
oxygen diffuses directly into cells;
Small SA to Vol ratio;
(I'm not sure if this bit is correct it's mentioned in some notes):
production of lactic acid when insects fly;
which lowers WP;
water enters via osmosis;
so diffusion of oxygen quicker

For:
- Produce animals/plants with high yield. eg Cows which produce more milk than usual.
- Produce animals/plants which are resistant to disease (less pesticides/drugs need to be used).
- Produce animals with a resistance to a particular climate.

Against:
- Reduces genetic diversity as animals/plants with only similair traits, therefore similair alleles being used, reduces the gene pool, hence less diversity.
- Can have a negative effect on the animals health.

Easy marks there! :biggrin:

Sh*t I didn't know about the lactic acid - thanks alot!
I doubt ethical implication would be a 6 marker..i think it would be on insects on how plant leaves are adapted to efficient gas exchange

They have not been set yet. Only when people have done the paper and the papers have been marked they can set them, as they are proportional to how hard/easy the paper was. Grade boundaries are usually released one day before results day.

I know but how many marks do you generlly need to get per say a grade A etc.... :smile: Its been quite high last year but i dunno
guys lm off to school, on a piece of wood with wheels, wish me luck and good luck to you too !!!

Probably 68/85 would be an A without any external influences.

Uhm due to the way AQA write these papers... they are usually around 60 for an A.... i'd say on average if you get 68-ish/85 you definitely have an A... although who knows... maybe paper is really hard or really tough which changes it completely :tongue:
Can anyone explain quick what apoplastic and symplastic pathway are ?

I might be wrong, but don't insects have a LARGE surface area to volume ratio?

Symplastic - Through the living parts of cells. Through the cytoplasm, cells connected through plasmodesmata.

Apoplats - Through the non-living parts of cells. Through the cell walls.

Make note - When the apoplast reaches the endodermis cells, there is a waxy strip in the cell walls which block it, hence the symplast must be taken.
