TSR Med Students' Society Part IV
The place for medical students to discuss all things about the course from work load to applying for jobs and everything else. Not the place for applicants to ask current medical students questions!

I feel sick thinking about it. When's your OSCE?

Re: TSR Med Students' Society Part IV
Hmmm, in a bit of a predicament.
So there's a long summer coming up. I'll have a couple of months spare after a week abroad.
A lot of people from my department managed to continue their projects on over summer (building phantoms, making measurements etc) but that wasn't applicable to my project.
I don't want to waste the time so I was thinking about heading to the local hospital back home to get some experience. Problem is, having not really had any clinical skills teaching beyond how to wash my hands and gain consent, I'm not sure whether I'd get anything out of it.
Any thoughts? I was thinking about asking radiology if they need someone to help with audits or do odd-jobs as that's probably where I'd be least useless? -

Re: TSR Med Students' Society Part IVI did a hospital placement in my first summer holiday. Had zero clinical skills but got to scrub in on lots of surgery(Original post by Tech)

Then went back to uni early and did an audit in theatres there. Worth asking, given it's summer they might be student-free and happy to teach you stuff.
Or you could do something non-medical... Presuming you still have 3 years of medical school left there's plenty of time to be getting experience and a limited number of long summers to enjoy

Re: TSR Med Students' Society Part IVI might look into a job at a GP summarising patient notes this summer. It pays decent, flexible hours, and would hopefully keep what remaining medicine is in my head until next September!(Original post by Tech)

Re: TSR Med Students' Society Part IVGood point, and that was plan A.. but it really is a majority of people on my bsc who are on the ball with the extra experience and I don't want to fall behind this early on.(Original post by Phryx)

I was considering something like that too - have no experience in it but from reading about it doesn't seem too hard to pick up!(Original post by Isometrix)

yeah summer is a good time, plus the med school back home is grad only so may be less busy.

Sad times. Hope they catch them.Yeah, tbf, it wasn't a particularly violent one. I think it was originally intended to be a pickpocket but I realised what they were doing just as the one removed my phone out my pocket and scarpered. Then the other one got a bit arsy with me and threw me around a bit.
Just pissed off tbh, I was on a busy main road and only been seperated from the group for about 10 minutes. Nightmare trying to report it/find out insurance details without actually having a phone though. -
Re: TSR Med Students' Society Part IVMake it less ****.(Original post by Isometrix)
My aim before graduation is to orchestrate something similar to this: -
Re: TSR Med Students' Society Part IVthey're freshers tbf(Original post by Renal)
Make it less ****. -
Re: TSR Med Students' Society Part IVSorry to hear that(Original post by RollerBall)

Coming to the end of this iBSc, have realised that I'm actually going to miss research
well lab-based research anyhow. Not the looking/reading countless journals and spending hours interpreting what they mean. I won't miss that.
