For mega parties, Bowland. For a reliable source of atmosphere, regular parties and community, Fylde. Furness standard washbasin has good accommodation for a great price (I live there)

    Fylde is 100% ensuite.
County, Furness, Pendle, Grizedale and Bowland all offer standard rooms of different styles [some with living room areas - like County - and some that have been refurbished more recently than others etc].
thanx for your recent reply ive surfed the website and found that only catered accommodation is at county, cartmel, bowland, lonsdale since i wont choose cartmel or lonsdale. i got no options besides county and bowland and i dont know which one to choose

u can stay in any accommodation or choose to stay in a college close to where ull study like ill study politics and ir which is at county college so ill choose the closest accommodations either county or furness :P
Don't expect all your teaching to be in County just because that's your department base. Lectures are held all over campus, not just in your department. Nowhere is more than about 15 minutes walk, but be aware that you could be further away from lectures than you think.
It is best to choose the accommodation you want based on the rooms and price, not the nearness to your department.

I've put Lancaster as my firm, so hoping I get the grades, but not sure what college? Looking for a social college, not particularly sporty or crazy party, but somewhere that has a good bar and social areas. I'm really drawn to the townhouses because of the lounge area, but I want en-suite really! Does any of the en-suite accomodation have any kind of social space within the flats other than the standard kitchen? Even if it's just a sofa in the kitchen?

Currently thinking Grizedale, County, Furness or Lonsdale.. tough decision!

I believe en-suites have social areas. The ones i looked at all had them, the kitchen area had chairs, table etc., however im still going for townhouse in County. They sound perfect for what i want, plenty of people to share with and more opportunities to live with different sorts of people.

I think the en-suites do have a social area but it's not as big as in the townhouses. I've had the same problem with wanting an en-suite but if you're not very sporty think Grizedale could be a good call! I think going to put Fylde first and then Grizedale. tough choice though!

I'm in a Grizedale townhouse, it all depends who you're put with... I'm with quite quiet people and final year students so they aren't exactly 'party animals' but if you socialise with your neighbours then it doesn't matter. I tend to go out with County people anyways

Haha yeah I am. But I'm just kidding about Furness. Everyone says their college is the best, mine was chosen based on location (the psychology department is in Fylde College). My best friend is from Lonsdale!

Does anyone have some insight about Aberystwyth, Essex, and East Anglia? I've been accepted to Aber and Essex and am working on my portfolio for UEA.
This thread is about the Lancaster University undergraduate colleges.

Fair enough! I feel quite drawn to Fylde, mainly because I live on the Fylde coast and just the name feels quite familiar and homely haha

Well, all of our accommodation is ensuite, George Fox may be being done up over the summer and you have a good starting point in that you already know how to spell and say the college name. The amount of times you hear freshers' reps saying 'Fylde, not Flyde!" is actually quite funny
Every college will have friendly people and unfriendly people, but I find we're quite friendly here compared to the rest, but that's probably just because I spend all of my time here. There have been about 6 emails about the quiet period continuing to be neglected so it's a little noisy, but in general people will shut up if you tell them to (or if they don't live in your flat, if you call the porter). The porters are also lovely and if you order a lot of stuff off the internet then it's not long till they know you by name (post goes to the porters lodge and you pick up parcels from them).
Like I said, you have to pick what's best for you in terms of location and accommodation type, but wherever you end up will be what you consider home by the end of freshers' week. My flatmate last year didn't get his first or second choice college, but he loved us all the same.

If you do get Fylde and you're lost at all during freshers' week or beyond, feel free to give me a PM as I'm living on campus - whereas your freshers' reps might not be.

Does anybody know what the Grizedale townhouses are like, both in terms of being a nice place to live and social-wise/having a fun atmposhere?
yeah the grizedale ones are nice and there have been a lot of parties in them this year. there is a bigger sense of community also with people going into other townhouses which can get parties packed!
