Re: The Chelsea F.C. Thread III
Who's liking our fixture list?
I think it's similar to that of last seasons. Bar newcastle at home we don't have too much of a threat in the first 5 games. We have arsenal away 6th game, then tottenham at the lane 8th and united at the bridge 9th.
I don't think it's too much of an ask for us. Super cup and club world championship are in the middle of easier fixtures. Although we do have everton at GODison for our last game of 2012.
We also have United away on the 4th of may(could be the title decider match) -
Re: The Chelsea F.C. Thread IIIJuventus. Marchisio and chiellini. Possibly giovinco if juve take 50% more of his transfer rights from parma.(Original post by NDGAARONDI)
That's my point.
I fail to see how paying good money for the finished article is inferior to price cutting on half finished articles (that's the Poundland way). This practice easily has drawbacks, such as players moving to clubs too early and those clubs not developing them by playing them as they should. Plus it means clubs with more financial clout can easily horde English players anyway and rarely play them (remember Adam Johnson?), as if the loan system isn't bad enough for that. That's why I was against the homegrown status and would rather focus on having an English quota instead. The Premier League brought in the homegrown criteria to help the national team but many, if not all, players where clubs easily fit the bill are foreign so it's not actually helping the national team anyway, so you have to go by nationality or change the eligibility to British citizenship and/or to represent the English NT. Spurs have shown that you can play aesthetically pleasing football, with a good amount of English players, without overdoing the expenditure. While English players may be inferior to a lot of foreign ones, the premium on English ones do them no favours either. Not sure how many of the "elite" European clubs regularly bring up academy players through their youth systems either as Barcelona may be the exception, as usual. May be Milan but I'm a bit busy right now.
Milan haven't brought up a player for some time I think, paloschi had a lot of potential but he's gone now, I guess abate and antonini. Although antonini was surplus to requirements and was sold and bought back so doesn't count. In reality it's just abate now. -
Re: The Chelsea F.C. Thread IIII'm happy with it on the whole because it's quite evenly spread in terms of the tough fixtures. Ideally we'd want the likes of Everton, City, Stoke and Newcastle earlier in the campaign before our annual winter slump, but it's not too bad. I like the fact we've got United away at the end again, that's always been an important one and we've got a habit of winning it.(Original post by jam277)

Re: The Chelsea F.C. Thread IIIOn the pitch, but he's still a good 30 behind Peter Shilton at 125.(Original post by Isometrix)
Cole to become the most capped England player in tomorrow's game apparently
-
Re: The Chelsea F.C. Thread IIIAnd he is still behind Beckham, Bobby Charlton, Moore, Billy Wright. He will be the player who has played the most tournament games at 21 though(Original post by Wednesday Bass)

Re: The Chelsea F.C. Thread IIIGood signing. Cheap, versatile, suited to the PL. I'd rather spend about £8m on Moses than £35m on Hulk.(Original post by chelseafreak)
so victor moses bid rejected, any thoughts? -
Re: The Chelsea F.C. Thread IIILet him stay at Wigan and run his contract down. The last club who overvalued their player eventually sold him to us at a reasonable price. We don't need to chuck too much money around as we used to anyway. If we are actually interested, and so are Arsenal and Spurs, then we can cite the recent trophy haul to try and bargain with players. I'dl rather see what we have at our own disposal first.(Original post by chelseafreak)

Re: The Chelsea F.C. Thread IIIAgreed. Though providing he doesn't sign a new contract, we can get a cheaper bid accept in January.(Original post by Isometrix)

Hazard, Sturridge, Mata, Torres, and then younger guys like Lukaku, Kakuta (looked good for Dijon) - all of these guys would occupy positions that Moses would play.
Moses isn't CL material - seeing as he opted (had to settle) to represent Nigeria rather than England. -
Re: The Chelsea F.C. Thread IIIThe international team you play for doesnt judge if you are CL material or not(Original post by Newbie123)

Re: The Chelsea F.C. Thread IIIHe probably won't come here anyway because of his relationship with Wenger & attachment to Arsenal.(Original post by Banishingboredom)
Just noticed Flamini is out of contract this summer. Reckon he'd be a good addition? Fallen out of favour at Milan but still quality.
But even if he wanted to, we shouldn't sign him because he'll demand hefty wages, not to mention that a mediocre player (4 caps for France) approaching 30 is the last thing we need right now.
Ramires, Essien, Lamps, Mikel, then young CMs like McEachran & Romeu = no space for an ex-Gooner Flamini. -
Re: The Chelsea F.C. Thread IIINo, of course not, but it seems to me that Moses opted for Nigeria not just because he wanted to represent the country of his birth, but because he knew that he'd be able to represent Nigeria on a much more regular basis than England. After all, he did represent England from U-16 to U-21, so clearly there was some desire to represent England.(Original post by Tommyjw)

But anyway, Moses, IMO, wouldn't get into the current England squad - which is saying something because England are rebuilding atm. We should be looking to acquire top level young talent to ensure that we don't fall out of the top 4 next year. -
