To be honest, I think our squad is a little stronger than City's. I think they have found a way to play that works for them now which gives them edge over us. Our keepers are comparable plus we have four good centre backs (terry, ivanovic, luiz, cahill) and the best left back going. Right back is an area for concern though
I also think we have great midfield options with oscar, lampard, mikel, essien, ramir es,meireles, mata, hazard, marin. I think we have the best midfield options in the league. Our short-coming is upfront with only Torres the stand-out player, so I think we may need a new striker to give Torres competition or for someone he can play alongside. Apparently we've been looking at Lewandowski (not too keen on him) and Cavani (terrorised City and us in the first leg), but we need another good striker.

I have no faith in Lukaku- his ball control is awful, he can barely pass and he's just big.He gives the ball away in many a promising position. The good thing is that he is strong and he does have some sort of powerful shot on him. He needs to be on his toes and be ready to receive the ball. Drogba didn't reach his peak for a while, so he has time on his side

On paper, we look good to go, but the thing is we've always looked good on paper. I can see a Man City 2010-2011 in us but I think our players are more confident than City were then. They were too afraid to go out and attack teams (0-0 at home to United, then playing for a draw at the Emirates that season). We have the squad to win the league- it just slightly concerns me when Torres is injured- maybe we can do a Spain then XD.
Agree, need a striker, but we have faith in torres, I'm guessing the aim is stick with 2 strikers till january(real madrid do it anyway and it works for them), then if that isn't working(we always find goals from a source so we'll be fine or at least in top 4 as our defence normally holds up) we'll buy a striker.

Lukaku has time, he was not bought for this season, remember that ryan bertrand debuted in a CL final and I think that was his first start despite being 22. We're good to go, we're probably a world class striker away from winning the league and we have the strongest squad, but you can't do that yet as we need the squad to gel.

The thing like you said that goes to our advantage is that we're used to winning, the new signings are quality and we have winners who have been at our squad for years like lampard, terry, cech, essien and others, city didn't have a single player like that, yaya toure and kolo toure hadn't won things at city but at other clubs.

We lost a couple of matches in pre season of the 10-11 season, we then won 6 games in a row and destroyed teams 6-0.
    Exactly!

From what I've seen so far this season and going on previous seasons I still think we need one more world class attacker who can be a match winner. Someone along the lines of Drogba for us or RVP and Ronaldo for United.

At the moment our only 'world class' (liberally put) attacker is Torres with a nod to Mata and Hazard, and any injuries to them put us in trouble.

Chelsea have built such a fascinating team and I'd love to be in your position right now you must be feeling so optimistic!

Can't wait to see Oscar in the premier league, I'm almost certain he's going to be an exceptional acquisition with a minimum of 15 assists.

    Then you got Eden Hazard..

Who have you got up front though?

Yeah I've heard he's decent but you also have a Colombian at youth level that looks streets ahead of his age category and might grab a few apps or two this year.

Lukaku still leaves a lot to be desired and Fernando Torres is Fernando Torres - you been linked to anyone in the market? think you could manage one more world class striker.

Rather, who haven't we been linked to?

Oscar is class. Oscar,Mata,Hazard is a mouthwatering combination. All we need now is a RB and an out and out striker to provide backup for Torres.

If only. :coma: It seems as though he's joining Barcelona, though.

Oscar looked excellent from the highlights I've seen thus far.

Couldn't agree more. Ivanovic is a good right back mind but obviously could still use someone who plays there naturally.

Oscar looked impressive. He doesnt run so fast that defenders would be tempted to lunge in on him, and he avoids the tough challenges, so hopefully his size doesnt become detrimental to him.

Played in loads of positions... the wings, AM and CM when the manager changed things up.

And looks like Mata is coming back early.

Obviously Ivan is great there but we also need a right back that can overlap.

Well a new RB is probably even more important if Terry gets banned for 8+ games. Ivanovic will have to play as CB in some games, and it's risky to use Ferreira/Hutch in the opening few months of the season.

Just saw Sturridge's goal against UAE. Maybe we don't need another striker...

Yep. But if we look at rumours from the past few months, Chelsea have dominated them for Neymar. Having said that, when Barca come in, they usually have a high success rate:confused:. Bad for us, but I wouldn't rule out him joining in 2013

Oh well my adopted homeland for the last 15 years did well , maybe next time xD. They'll get a rousing reception I would think when they land back here. Well if Mata's back early then all the better for us I guess. Even if we do get Azpilicueta lets say, I'd start Ferriera over Azpli because he's used to the league/squad and he did play most if not all the pre season games =o

So..def means we're getting a defender and seemingly a striker? For the sake of Fernando Torres, even if it is for 6 months, please no. Would love to give him a chance with our new midfield
