    Re: Monies :)
    AHHHHH I NEED HELP!

I tried to register for SF online on Friday and was told my details were already registered (I registered 4 years ago when I was contemplating attending uni previously but never actually applied etc)
Because I couldn't remember any information to log-in, I rang the expensive 0845 number only to get through to a Scottish girl who giggled her way throughout the call as she blatantly whispered to someone near her.
She asked me to confirm my mobile number on the account and when I advised her that I've had two contracts since then and wouldn't have a notion of the mobile number she advised me she couldn't take the call any further!!!

She then advised me I would need to do a paper application!
So she gave me a link for these papers, when I managed to find the PN1 info online it says this is for the 2008 applications??

    I AM SO CONFUSED!
I don't want to ring up again and spend a small fortune only to be told again that they cant help me !!
Has anyone had any similar experience or better in the know than me ?? xxx

    Hey,

Okkk I rang through and spoke with a lovely fella who helped me in accessing my account etc YAY!
Now the confusing task of using the calculator... I AM SO CONFUSED.
    Ok two main questions:

Whats the difference between a means tested and a non-means tested?
I have lived without my parents financial support etc for over 4 years outside of education so I presume this means that means-tested loan is from my own finances? (Which is zilch!) But can anyone advise?

ALSO I am so confused because when I was filling in the Student Finance info it was advising me I was entitled to grants, but then when I put down I already had a degree it removed my right to grants (Even though I never applied for or received funding for my last degree!)

Then when I clicked that I was applying for NHS bursary, it said it looked like I wasn't entitled to funding??
    Anyone clued up here? xxx

When I said I'm getting the NHS bursary it only gave me £2300. Which isn't enough for accomodation and food and travel. (can't work, nursing is full time..)
So I called them, and they said something went wrong on the form, I apparently clicked I don't want the maximum available loan, but that option was never present. So they cancelled the application and told me I'd have to do it on paper, they sent me the paper application, and have ent 2 of the same forms, of which I need the other more. So I'm still stuck.

If you are eligible for the NHS bursary, you can only get £2324 for the student loan (with only slightly more if you are studying in London), so it was correct the first time.

My issue with this is that I won't then be able to afford accomodation and food / travel.
I won't get money from parents, and it's a full time course, so I can't get a job. So, what are my options for money if that's the maximum I'll get?

Is it right that on my student finance page I should have only:
    Your application
    - About you
    -Your course
    + Term time

If that's all correct, I guess I can apply for the loan now, of £2324.00 ?

The Student Finance loan isn't supposed to cover everything. Everyone who is on a NHS-funded course, and lives away from home outside London, gets £2324. It is so low because they know that you are also eligible for the NHS bursary, which should make up the rest, or at least get you as near as possible to your full living costs.
I've heard the maintenance loan is reduced by 50% for Nursing students, is this true? Or is £2324 the reduced amount?

£2324 is the reduced amount. If we didn't have the reduction, for living away from home we would get about £3400.

hmn that is strange, I know you can get the funding even if you've done a degree, but, I'd just ring them unfortunately!
    Sorry I'm useless!
