Quick disclaimer - I tried searching for such a discussion but since it's quite specific I had no luck.
I am currently applying to MPhil course and was asked to describe my career plans, intentions etc. I want to be as truthful as possible, no bull**** etc., but I am wondering if mentioning the fact that I am not sure whether I wish to pursue a PhD would be perceived in a negative way?
Especially since the course descriptions actually starts with "X is designed to prepare students for doctoral research, ..."
The fact is, that I simply don't know. It's sensible for researchers in the area to have one, but I have a few doubts myself - I am not sure if I will want to spend another 4-5 years in academia (I am fairly sure I do not wish to continue my career in academia), it depends a lot if I am offered a place at a good university with funding, if I find a topic interesting enough and lastly if the kind of work is even suited for me.
