Re: Couple questions about John Snow CollegeI wanna visit the uni this weekend, am I allowed to just wonder around the campus? can I get a student ambassador to show me around and stuff? or do i need to speak with the uni first?(Original post by showtimecircus)
The internet speed is quite fast. Torrents won't work and you'll struggle with stuff like media fire. You shouldn't try downloading illegal material on uni internet, if you get caught you'll get in trouble with the uni. Games work fine online. -

There's a webpage that may help you- http://www.dur.ac.uk/johnsnow.colleg...dvisits/visit/
Your best bet would be to either come on one of the campus days. If you can only come this weekend you can contact the college and ask them for a personal tour. All the info is in the webpage.
Anything else i can help with feel free to ask.
Hope you're well

Re: Couple questions about John Snow CollegeNot all games work online, as some ports have been blocked. There's a list of games which work online: - http://www.dur.ac.uk/cis/security/issues/(Original post by showtimecircus)

Re: Couple questions about John Snow CollegeHey, I was wondering how often the formal dinners at John Snow take place?(Original post by showtimecircus)
Also if it's just the uni you want to visit-http://www.dur.ac.uk/study/visit/queens/ -
Re: Couple questions about John Snow CollegeI believe its once every term on average and twice in term 1. Only one of them in term 1 is compulsary, the rest are optional and some of them you can be invited to.(Original post by fbear)

Re: Couple questions about John Snow CollegeMy girlfriend says the majority of business students are international (she does accounting and finance which is part of the department.She international too(Original post by Txi)
how many internationals at in the biz school ?
And isn't it true that the teaching staff will be different to those who teach similar subjects at the main campus
)
Some come from Durham and teach both Durham and Queen's. It's like this with all courses really. Doesn't matter which teaching staff you get, they're all the same.

Firstly, thank you for being for informative to all of us in this thread(Original post by showtimecircus)
The bedrooms are fine (currently in my room in halls now
)
You get an en-suite as standard which i cannot recommend enough.
Secondly, I was wondering if there was any way you could maybe take a picture of your/a room and en-suite at John Snow. The website doesn't seem to have many, specially of the latter. I know it maybe a bit much to ask but if you could it'd be great

Re: Couple questions about John Snow College
Advantage: Bigger room, double bed. Closer to Stockton. Lifts. Better shower. bigger kitchen.
Disadvantages: Bad heating, bad cleaning, far from campus (classes).
I live in halls and have mates who live in Mezzino. It doesn't make that much of a difference. I prefer halls because there's more people around to talk to. Halls feels like you're part of the college community.
Anything else just ask.
Hope that helps.

Re: Couple questions about John Snow CollegeThank you for all your help - you have been SO helpful! I am so confused about whether to stay in halls or at Mezzino. I loved halls and how much support it seemed the students got living there - it was one of the reasons why I put Durham as my firm choice. However, since finding out that Mezzino is just for Durham students now and is not mixed with Teeside, it made me curious to see what the accommodation was like. Mezzino seems SO much better - with the TV and everything, it seems as though you would be close to your flatmates etc because of the lounge area?(Original post by showtimecircus)

In your opinon, what would you do? Would you still choose halls? Do your friends like it at Mezzino? -
Re: Couple questions about John Snow CollegeHalls does make a difference in that you get stuck into college life, I know that one of my friends who lives in Mezzino doesn't really feel like a part of the college and misses out on some of the events. The prices I think are currently the same, so really it comes down to preferance.(Original post by scaredofexams)

The thing with halls is that we have senior residents who if you have a problem with other flat mates being too noisy,loud, drunk etc can be called to deal with it, I don't think Mezzino has something like that and you are mostly left to live as you like and deal with that on your own. I think Freshers is much better if you live in halls as you just get thrown right into it regardless of whether or not you want to, whereas in Mezzino you're far away from all the chanting and drinking.
If you're doing a sciencey course, the advantage with halls is that the ethernet cable also automatically logs you onto some journals as durham university, whereas I don't think Mezzino does. The internet at Mezzino however is better and less restricted than the one at halls in terms of online gaming.
If you want to see a bit of what John Snow looks like (and I can't believe I am now advertising this) search showtimecircus in youtube, you can see a bit of the room, but you'd have to wait for a proper photo to see it all. -
Re: Couple questions about John Snow CollegeNot a problem. Good luck for your exams!(Original post by showtimecircus)
