Maths/Further Maths module swapping question (AQA)
Hi,
I know there are other threads about this but I have a specific question I need clarification for. I am in my final year of A levels and I will have done the following modules towards Maths and Further Maths A levels (AQA) by summer:
C1, C2, C3, C4, S1B, M1B (taught in Maths)
FP1, FP2, FP3, D1, S2B, M2B (taught in Further Maths)
I understand that:
- C1, C2, C3 and C4 must be Maths modules (+ 2 extra applied modules)
- FP1, FP2, FP3 must be Further Maths modules (+ 3 applied modules)
- The applied modules can be switched between Maths and Further Maths as long as the ‘2’s aren’t in Maths without the ‘1’ counterpart in Maths (e.g. M2 without M1)
I have heard that the Maths grade is prioritised over the Further Maths grade. But is it possible to switch the modules around so that I get AA (Maths & Further Maths) instead of AB (A Maths/B Further Maths), i.e. have some ‘stronger’ modules included in the Further Maths grade to get the A?
For example: Maths 490 UMS, Further Maths 481 UMS (AA)
Instead of: Maths 500 UMS, Further Maths 471 UMS (AB)
I hope I have made my question clear.
Thank you

Re: Maths/Further Maths module swapping question (AQA)
Yes. From what I have read, This is automatically calculated to your advantage, the order of preference being:
1) Maths grade as high as possible
2) FM grade as high as possible, still maintaining Maths grade as it is
3) Maths UMS as high as possible, maintaining Maths and FM grade
4) FM UMS as high as possible, maintaining Maths UMS as it is.
So when certificating, you should get AA- the exam board does not know or care in which subject you were taught each module :P
However, do remember that you must have three modules with a '2' or higher in them in your Further Maths A2 (so FP2, FP3, and at least one of your S2B or M2B)
This is, however, only advice so don't take my word for it, ask your teacher or exams officer

Re: Maths/Further Maths module swapping question (AQA)
Sorry to ask a question so long after the thread was opened. I did as further maths last year and we did m1, fp1 and d2. I have now done c1, c2, c3 and c4 in maths and also d1 and s1. Would they be able to interchange my s1 for my d2 that I did in as further maths last year so that my overall maths combination is c1, c2, c3, c4,d1 and d2?
( core 4 just went really badly so I want to maximise my grades so that I don't need as many ums in core 4 for an A.)
