Re: S1 Edexcel 18th May 2012I don't think it is important to do past papers, maths is more about understanding the concepts and knowing how to use them rather than going through lot of past papers.(Original post by QwertyG)
How many past papers has everyone done in total for S1 so far???
I do around 1-3 past papers for every module of maths, and i do those on the day before the exam to see if i am fully prepared or not. I will probably try to do a couple of S1 past papers before the exam to get a feel for it. -
Re: S1 Edexcel 18th May 2012So far. No past papers. Done a few for Mechanics and C2, but none for Stats. Probably won't do any, gonna go through the book do the exercises and hope that's enough.(Original post by QwertyG)

Re: S1 Edexcel 18th May 2012The book is more than enough, if you want to get an A*, though you need to do past papers if you are looking for 100 marks in every module.(Original post by VictorDeLost)

I did around 5 past papers for M1, i also did the whole book, so i got 100 in it. At the time of M2, i didn't had time, so i didn't do any past papers, so got 90(most people will like it but it was my lowest marks in maths). The reason i dropped marks in M2 was that i didn't had any idea about the papers so was overly cautious during the exams which made me slow and high grade boundaries(i got 71/75 in the paper but 90 UMS) also didn't help.
For FP1 i did only 1 past paper and got 97.
I did solved the whole book for every module, so if you solve the book, understand everything, then 1 past paper is more than enough for your preparation.
Good luck

Re: S1 Edexcel 18th May 2012
I need some help, can't get a few things wrapped around my head..
When the question asks without further calculation, state how the change in the value of the weight of the player from 90 to 76 would have an effect on the mean and standard deviation. How is this solved? Explanation anyone? And if someone could give an example with the calculation would be great.
Also, did anyone solve Jan'11 number 6 from part E onwards? I couldn't find a type like this in the book, correct me if im wrong. Its about two observations X1 and X2 are made of X, show that P(X1+X2=4) = 0.1. What does that even mean? If anyone is solving papers, try to solve this part of jan'11 and if you can, please explain to me how you did it, because i am a very confused person now. -
Re: S1 Edexcel 18th May 2012did my first one a few days ago and got an B, only a few weeks left to push it up to an A(Original post by QwertyG)

Re: S1 Edexcel 18th May 20123 dots? I just think about it as a fraction and it works fine for me.(Original post by QwertyG)
How do you lot do interpolation? the 3 dots or the other way? -
Re: S1 Edexcel 18th May 2012Yep, 3 dots.(Original post by QwertyG)

Silly question but does interpolation come up alot on the S1 paper? -
Re: S1 Edexcel 18th May 2012nope I do the other way were its the fraction of b+(0.5n-f/fc) x W much much easier. and also does anyone have any websites which has usefull worksheets for Probability cos that is my weakest area !(Original post by Zhy)
Do you really have to use that 3 dot thing in the exam? It just seems to overcomplicate it... -
Re: S1 Edexcel 18th May 2012Just do probability questions on the solomon papers(Original post by stuck18)

Re: S1 Edexcel 18th May 2012It's asking for the probability when first independent observation and the second independent observation = 4.(Original post by Warfare)

You know that
When the probability is independent so just work from there.
For part e) to make 4,
.
