Re: Ken Livingstone: I will make London a beacon of IslamI don't really remember anything significant he done except give me free bus pass when I was young. He must have done something awful for people to hate him with such passion, what did he do? I'm being serious by the way, I genuinely don't remember or know.(Original post by SleepySheep)
He is a complete dickhead though. -
Re: Ken Livingstone: I will make London a beacon of IslamWhat's wrong with looking for the Muslim vote(Original post by L i b)
Now, I don't buy into anti-Islamic rubbish and on some level I can maybe kinda see what he's getting at (in a completely cack-handed fashion), but is he daft? It's almost like he wants to lose this election.
Had it been a synagogue and he said that he wants everyone to know about the message of Moses, any criticism would have automatically been labelled anti-semitic, we both know that.

Re: Ken Livingstone: I will make London a beacon of IslamHe is a Labour candidate, thus I hate him.(Original post by noisy06)

Re: Ken Livingstone: I will make London a beacon of Islamlol I assume you still took advantage of the free bus pass though(Original post by JakeyR)
He is a Labour candidate, thus I hate him.
I don't really care who's part of what party as long as they're serving my interests. That's what it's all about isn't it.

Re: Ken Livingstone: I will make London a beacon of Islamthink your confusing Islam with the British Empire.(Original post by One Nation)
x
Was it Islam which sent thousands of young British men to fight the neocons war in Iraq or was in Tony Blair ?
Islam was the first in rejection racism and uniting all races on a common mission to build the ideal society, British Society is remembered for no Dogs,No Irish and No Blacks.
Ken was a great mayor, ensured affortable transport for students and the unemployed. and has promised to bring back a london version of EMA. Boris Johnson only cares about tax breaks for the CityLast edited by Wilzman; 19-03-2012 at 22:34. -
Re: Ken Livingstone: I will make London a beacon of IslamI completely agree. My borough (Lewisham) improved dramatically under his tenure.(Original post by James10000)

Re: Ken Livingstone: I will make London a beacon of IslamI don't understand why we haven't done this yet. Religion has no place in state affairs whatsoever.(Original post by i.am.lost)
This is where I disagree with UK politics in favour of the American system which calls for a separation of state and religion.
EDIT:Ah, but you forget. We're Western, and therefore evil. We have to pay back our ancestor's debt to the people for colonising countries by allowing others to colonise ours.(Original post by cgraham15)
G-d forbid. Imagine if we tried to spread Christianity in Saudi Arabia (which, by the way, is illegal; females singing is also illegal in that country). What an uproar there would be.Last edited by najinaji; 19-03-2012 at 20:52. -

Re: Ken Livingstone: I will make London a beacon of IslamLet's have it right. Islam isn't a race, it's a world view and nothing more.(Original post by noisy06)
He's not serious in wanting to eradicate racism? He simply quoted a portion of Islamic text that condemned racism and discrimination and people are all over the place about it all. I can see how headlines can cause an unjustified stir, the media can really be powerful. -
Re: Ken Livingstone: I will make London a beacon of IslamFirstly, Ken isn't even a Muslim, let alone trying to spread Islam. Secondly, why should British Muslims care about anything in Saudi Arabia, if you want to spread Christianity there then the business is between you and the Saudi royal family(Original post by cgraham15)
G-d forbid. Imagine if we tried to spread Christianity in Saudi Arabia (which, by the way, is illegal; females singing is also illegal in that country). What an uproar there would be.

Re: Ken Livingstone: I will make London a beacon of IslamEducation was probably the biggest.(Original post by Time Tourist)
What improved, dramatically? -
Re: Ken Livingstone: I will make London a beacon of IslamYou do what any typical piece of crap journalist does: takes statements out of context to portray different meanings - he said he wanted to make london a beacon of what that sermon taught regarding equality and cultural cohesion etc - not a beacon of Islam.(Original post by Time Tourist)
You read about the Mosque's less than mainstream, shall we say, connections here
http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/an...acon-of-islam/
Ken Livingstone has promised to turn London into a “beacon” for the words of the Prophet Mohammed in a sermon at one of the capital’s most controversial mosques.
Mr Livingstone, Labour’s candidate for mayor of London, pledged to “educate the mass of Londoners” in Islam, saying: “That will help to cement our city as a beacon that demonstrates the meaning of the words of the Prophet.” Mr Livingstone described Mohammed’s words in his last sermon as “an agenda for all humanity.”
Or to Quote Archbishop Cranmer's nice twist on it:
What a truly repulsive man, playing divisive opportunist race politics the way he does.
The man is surely an embarrassment to the Labour party.
Had it been a synagogue and he said that he wants everyone to know about the message of Moses, any criticism would have automatically been labelled anti-semitic, we both know that.
