This is a bit of a long shot but I'm starting a Primary PGCE at Reading University in September 2012 and I was just wondering if there is anybody else doing the same (or even a Secondary one) and if so what accommodation you are choosing?

The education department has moved to the London Road campus now so there is more choice in regard to halls (for better or worse!)

    Thanks
I am starting in 2012 too doing the Early years course. But I live close to Reading so will be commuting, have you found anywhere to live yet?

Hey, congratulations on getting a place! how did you find out? did they tell you through GTTR?

Hi Amy, I found the writing task a bit weird too! They told us that they would let us know within a week but not too sure if it's going to be via email or gttr

Heya, thank you! When was your interview? I got an email just saying they have offered me a place and said as the GTTR isn't really working need to send response to the Uni. I am assuming I will have a letter in the post at some point with more details, but I am at uni and got put my home address as the postal address so yet to find out if I have a letter.

Thank you! . How did you think yours went? I had mine on the 1st May, I found out on 10th so not too long after, but still felt like I was waiting forever! I still haven't got a letter with conditions or anything yet though . Good Luck!

Thank you! I'm worried they may have told everyone on the 10th who have got in and I will be getting my rejection next week. I have to say I found the interview quite hard as i was thrown by a couple of the questions eg. the difference between the EYFS and the national curriculum and found it hard to sell myself. I thought the book presentation went well and found the written task question a little tricky. How did yours go? Is your degree related to teaching?

aww try and think positively, I know it is hard! But I thought mine was a complete disaster! I don't do a related degree at all, I do Animal Behaviour and Wildlife Biology lol, what about you? Are you still at uni?

I was thrown by the questions too, I just danced around the answers, kind of avoiding the questions. They kept going on about how little experience I have (as I only have 3 weeks in a primary school and 1 week in a nursery), and the fact that I had only been to faith schools (not my fault, they were the only ones that got back to me about volunteering), saying they have different issues than faith schools (this was the headmistress who I had interviewing me). And when it came to the questions about the current issues in education, I had to say that I really couldn't think of any, as I hadn't really had time to look because I had been working on my dissertation.

So I came out of there thinking I had done a really bad job and that the interviewer said that if we were teachers we would perhaps not have chosen the books we had for the presentation.
As for the written task, I had no concentration left for it lol. Such a stressful day!

So I am sure you did better than you think .

    Hi guys,

Bit of an odd question but can I ask what you all wore to your interviews?

I have an interview at Reading in 2 weeks and was wondering what to wear...

How many people wore full on suits and how many wore trousers and a nice blouse?

    Thanks

    hi everyone,

i'll be starting in september, so excited.

now i am worried about where to stay tho. does anyone know where they are going to be living, i have looked around quite a bit and think i am going to apply to kendrick halls as it is located opposite and when i spoke to them they said they could allow me to stay earlier than there contract start date which is a massive help.

I'm a second year student at the University of Nottingham thinking of applying for this after my degree. I'm just wondering about the selection process and whether you did anything in particular that you think helped support your application- aside from the minimum of 2 weeks in a state primary school? Any advice or tips with the interview would be greatly appreciated!!

    Hello all!

I didn't realise there were any replies to the thread..didn't get any emails, so I am so sorry for being lame in replying! I hope i'm not too late..!

For the interview you can bring in a book in any language, but if you're going for the french specialising course, it would be a good idea to perhaps bring in a french book. The group interviews where you read an extract from your book is really relaxed and friendly.

I actually don't know french, and I went in for the straight primary interview, however, I am half german and brought in a german book and they discussed it and decided to put me in the french course instead! I am a little nervous about this, so probably should brush up on my basic french skills before the course starts!!

For the french course, as well as the written task, there will be a question you will need to answer in french too. I think this is just to also grasp your knowledge of vocab and grammar etc in the language. The written tasks are primarily there just to check these aspects, the general content is not the most important point! So don't worry too much, as long as your handwriting, grammar and spelling are fine!

Good luck in your interviews!! Amy and Vasandar, just relax and enjoy it and you'll be fine!!

    xx

    Hiya,

I have an interview this week for the Primary PGCE with French! I'm excited, but also pretty nervous now!!! What kind of question did you get for the French written task? I really don't know what to expect!

    Hi Hannah!

Congrats on the interview! I'm not a really great person to ask about the french interview as I didn't actually have one, I had a general interview and was put on the french course! I'll see if I can ask the others for questions. Just have a lot of enthusiasm for languages and that the 2014 curriculum recognises this.

    Good luck!
