Re: Time for England to cut Wales and Scotland off for goodWhy didn't you include Birmingham?(Original post by IAmTheWumAndOnly)
Yes it has more wealth but its not on par with the superpowers of London or Manchester. -

England and Wales were all in colonies. Ours held them off alot longer than yours.
And also, the Welsh fought to retain their independence for years (Owain Glyndwr etc) whilst the English tried to stomp over everything and claim Wales. You wanted us, you've got us, and that means you keep paying for us to have free prescriptions and go to uni on the cheap

Re: Time for England to cut Wales and Scotland off for goodBecause even the English know Birmingham's a s***hole(Original post by TRS-T)
Why didn't you include Birmingham?

Re: Time for England to cut Wales and Scotland off for goodNot everywhere in South Wales. If you go to a Welsh-school you'll end up bilingual. If you go to an English-school, you'll be monolingual and the vast majority of schools are English-speaking...(Original post by Miracle Day)
Yes it does. I live in Caerphilly, I'll use a sample of three schools - Cwm Rhymni, Gwynlliw, Maes yr Yrfa - We're all bilingual -
Re: Time for England to cut Wales and Scotland off for goodYou need a history lesson. I'll give it to you simply.(Original post by Miracle Day)

The Roman army leaves the province of Britain. The Romano-British (aka the Welsh) aren't happy about this and are attacked. They hire Saxons, Angles and Jutes as mercenaries. They then proceed to invade Britain and form several kingdoms, which then become the heptarchy of England. The English existed after the Romans left Britain. England did not exist before then. -

Oh yes definitely. Welsh is on the rise though.(Original post by Gales)

Re: Time for England to cut Wales and Scotland off for goodIn my opinion, Welsh and English schools shouldn't exist. Everyone of us should leave school speaking English and Welsh fluently.(Original post by Miracle Day)

Re: Time for England to cut Wales and Scotland off for good
Never been to scotland, but as an englishman living in Wales, must say I do like it a lot here. I particularly don't want Wales to disband from England, because I think we'd be worse off without either of them. And asides OP you forgot some other major points;
a) Northern Ireland
b) Channel Islands - fancy giving those to France whilst you're at it, as some of them ARE south of Cherbourg. -
Re: Time for England to cut Wales and Scotland off for goodhow would we have one of the worlds greatest GDP? Oh and Scotland are pretty much prepared to become independant, I doubt they'd rely on England as they hardly do now.(Original post by IAmTheWumAndOnly)
I don't want to start a rant but I have a feeling it may turn into one.
There is no benefit whatsoever of being linked with these two countries. Scotland wants independence where it suits them but lets not forget that if things go wrong they will come crying back to the bank of daddy for more money to look after themselves. Wales and Scotland are like the two children who have now reached 40 years old and need to GTFO of the house and start sorting themselves out.
They have leached off England for too long and without us they'd be left screwed. They just use us. It's time we started looking after ourselves. The only good place in Wales is Cardiff because it has links to London. The rest of Wales is poor, full of mountains and sheep, little derelict buildings full of little people who speak funny. Sorry, but it is the truth. Scotland ain't that much better either. Yes it has more wealth but its not on par with the superpowers of London or Manchester.
Furthermore, they are Celtic countries. We are not. We are England and we are nothing to do with them so why should we look after them? We've done it for long enough and paid them back for historical events dozens of times over.
As a sovereign state we'd have one of the worlds greatest GDP's too.
I know Welsh and Scottish people are going to disagree because they like to be looked after and spoonfed their living thanks to us very hard working English people but that's the truth. If Wales stopped depending on us then maybe they'd get off their arse and invest more deeply in their own economy for future growth. -
Re: Time for England to cut Wales and Scotland off for goodEngland had habitants "Britons". It doesn't matter if England wasn't formed, but those people on the **** side of the bridge were English (Your ancestors ) and on our side Welsh (my ancestors)(Original post by Calanon)

In my opinion, Welsh and English schools shouldn't exist. Everyone of us should leave school speaking English and Welsh fluently. -
Re: Time for England to cut Wales and Scotland off for goodThey weren't bloody English. The Welsh ARE Britons. Those people are not my ancestors. My ancestors are Angles, Saxons and Normans. Germanic people that invaded Britain AFTER the Roman invasion of Britain. Go do some research. The English did not exist yet.(Original post by Miracle Day)

Re: Time for England to cut Wales and Scotland off for goodWhat do you mean what of their armed forces? The army is BRITISH.(Original post by HeyyImRyan)
Scotland can have their independence in my opinion. On the proviso that they end the West Lothian Question by removing all their MP's from Westminster and become a unitary state with their Scottish Parliament.
No one can argue that Scotland would most definitely have to change as a result - no longer could they provide free university fees, if they decided to take up the Euro they'd be tied up with billions of debt in commercial banks and what of their armed forces?
I say give them a referendum, if they all vote 'Yes' to independence then they've made their bed.
Edit: I don't agree with the OP on 'getting rid of' them, but if they want to go then really we should let them. -
Re: Time for England to cut Wales and Scotland off for goodThe Britons were the Welsh (and Cornish). They were driven to Wales and Cornwall during the Anglo-Saxon invasion of England. The people who we'd now class as Welsh used to live in what now is England.(Original post by Miracle Day)

Re: Time for England to cut Wales and Scotland off for goodAu contraire, ever been to Barmouth in the summer? Trust me, for six weeks that place turns into Birmingham. I always wonder if Birmingham is beautiful and peaceful in the summer holidays but no-one knows it because they're all bringing their scum and chavviness to Barmouth and similar places(Original post by TRS-T)
S**hole it may be but at least it's not in Wales.

So you're telling me the inhabitants of England are all driven into Scotland/Wales.
Okay mate. -
Re: Time for England to cut Wales and Scotland off for goodNot all of the, but a lot of them. Also to Cornwall and Brittany.(Original post by Miracle Day)

Okay mate.
EDIT: Also, England basically means 'land of the Angles'... quite hard to name a place after a group of people before those people live there, is it not?Last edited by Calanon; 20-03-2012 at 21:35. -
