Re: Northumbria uni-- which halls???
I'm currently in Glenamara, paying £96/week, and (as it has been in our flat, Flat 1, this year), it's been a nightmare. First girl moved in - bug infestation (environmental health were due out but haven't heard a thing).
Then the single loo wobbled and, thus, loosened pipes - out of use for a total of 2 and a half months. Door into flat doesn't lock properly all of the time and a terrible big (in our case disabled, as two of my flatmates are disabled), bathroom (started with water not draining from shower so had to get floor cleaned due to the arising mould, then upstairs' bathroom was leaking into our bathroom (and the light fitting, which has a plastic bit that should keep it waterproof - seemingly we were lucky to not have been affected as it's directly above our shower).
To top it all off, I reported a bit subsidence in the floor in the first month or so. Only three weeks ago did they come out to look at it - they put some MDF in to stabilise it but, upon ripping up the lino as they'd had to cut a chunk out of it, they realised the whole floor (well, the wood and not the polystyrene underneath), was rotten through. Now they have to take all the temporary walls out, move them, replace the floor and refit the whole bathroom.
On the bright side, the whole of Glenamara is getting bathroom refurbs for next year so, if you do pick it, you shouldn't have too many problems.
Another tip: they are REALLY fussy on the layout of your room at the end of the year, as I've just discovered. Take a picture/make a note as, seemingly, if your chairs or moveable set of drawers are in a different place to where they started (even if it is more practical), they will fine you.
Sorry for the rant but hope you make a good decision
Btw, any of you starting Applied Chemistry (BSc), this coming year? I should be going onto that as I did the Applied Sciences Extended Degree this year. -

Re: Northumbria uni-- which halls???Hi. I have a few friends (who are my housemates for next year), living in Marleen Court at the moment. My friend Kath usually walks down (if she has plenty of time), or gets the Metro from Chillingham Road (I think), down to a station called Manors. Manors is right near City Campus East (well, just down the road from it), but even if you were in the main campus, that's maybe 1-2minutes walk away - depending on which building you're in.(Original post by Care-Free)

So travel will be relatively easy I'd say. Also, good luck with your accommodation applications everyone -

Re: Northumbria uni-- which halls???
Basically, I just got an accommodation offer for Quay Point and I'm not sure what to do.
It looks nice enough. As well as clean and safe.
But I was really hoping for Victoria Halls.
Is there a possibility that I'll get more offers throughout this week?
If so... is it possible that I could get another offer from a different accommodation in the "City Ensuite" category?
Thanks (: -
Re: Northumbria uni-- which halls???Unfortunately, that is your only offer. I imagine you could risk rejecting it and trying to get directly in touch with Victoria Halls (or whichever company owns them) about any possible free spaces but that would mean your accommodation will be uncertain for a while so I wouldn't recommend it! If you want any info on Quay Point send a reply, I was there for 1st year.(Original post by lothiriel)

Re: Northumbria uni-- which halls???Oh, no, thank you very much for your reply! I've already accepted Quay Point and come to accept it. It'll be fine (:(Original post by DrGonzo815)

Re: Northumbria uni-- which halls???
According my friend who lived there last year, Quay Point seems decent. And it has the en-suite which, if you're like him and get a night shift as well as having random lecture times (like one week one time, another time the next), it's brilliant as he didn't have to worry so much about disturbing others or taking up the bathroom when they needed it.
Anyway, I hope you all are happy with your accommodation next year and that your experiences are better than mine! -
Re: Northumbria uni-- which halls???
Hi. I just made my application for next year, I found the application process a bit confusing and not sure if ive done it right? My brother has recently finished uni in Newcastle and has friends who went to Northumbria also, and so theyve given me some advice. My 1st choice would be Knoll court as I wish to have en suite and my brother thought it was the best, however am I right in saying that you cant pick specific halls just the general en suite classic choice? What happens next, do they send me offers or something? Random queston, whats the freshers wristband all about and what date is freshers week?

Yeah, the application is a little confusing. It took me a bit as well. You can't pick specific halls within City En-suite and En-Classic. You just pick it generally. They'll try to allocate you your first choice (so either of the En-suite Classics) Am I right in thinking that Knoll Court and Camden Court are both En-Suite classic? So you will be allocated any of these (unless they are too full, in which case you will be allocated your second choice. But I don't think that it happens too often). You can always state in your preferences that you would really like Knoll Court.
Are you an unconditional or a conditional offer holder? If you're an unconditional offer holder, then you should be getting an offer by email pretty soon. If not, then they usually wait until results are out. That's in August. And then you'll be sent an email as well.
Freshers week should be starting after the move-in days, which are on the 14th and 15th of September. I think Freshers week is launched on the saturday (15th) already. And then it continues for the week (: I think the wristband is just something you get with which you can move around freely and get into clubs and the entertainment stuff and whatnot. I think you have to purchase it at the start. But they're bound to tell you. -
Re: Northumbria uni-- which halls???Do you hold a conditional offer? I think they won't allocate accommodation yet until your results are out. So that would be in August.(Original post by Lotpot178)
I applied for accommodation back in February, but I never got any comfimation from the uni, is the normal?? Starting to panic a bit!
You can always send an email to the accommodation office to inquire. I find that they are very helpful and polite (: -
Re: Northumbria uni-- which halls???
does anyone know if i can change the order of my preferences once i've applied? I've put marleen court as my first choice but decided i'll probably be closer to people on my course if i'm in halls closer to city campus east but those halls are my 2nd and 3rd choices..

Re: Northumbria uni-- which halls???I didn't have any preferences. I just picked City En-Suite as first choice and Classic En-suite as my second (: I have an unconditional offer, so I've already been allocated accommodation. It's from my first choice category, so I'm pleased.(Original post by Granger)

I really would not recommend Stephenson building to anyone. I've lived there this year, its mega quiet and we haven't had hot water for the majority of the year..
thats where ive got an offer for. Its so hard knowing where to choose if you havent a clue about any of them
