Who do you follow/support?
Hi all,
I havn't posted much on TSR but am a great F1 fan and have been watching it since I was 7 or 8 and would like to find out which drivers/teams are the most and least popular here. Sorry if this has been posted many times before.
For me, Kimi has been my favourite driver since 2005ish and you can imagine my delight when he came back. Hope he is able to qualify well this coming weekend and challenge the big guys.
Also a great fan of Alonso, M.Schumacher and Jenson.
Although I like Lewis when he is driving aggressively and quickly I dislike his attitude and I think the way he was last weekend sums up why I don't like him so much.
My favourite team would have to be McLaren though, had 1 uncle and 1 grandfather who worked closely with them so my family have always supported them.
What about you guys?Last edited by DScofield; 20-03-2012 at 19:59. -
I dislike Maldonado and JEV. Former on his performances in F1 over the last couple of years, latter because of one kart race where he was very disrespectful of other drivers on the grid.
Generally I tend to dislike winning drivers in obviously superior cars. Schumi in the Ferrari days, JB at Brawn (I rate him much higher after his years at McLaren than his WDC at Brawn), Vettel over the last two years. I like a tight battle for the championship.
Driver behaviour and attitude also comes in to it. Lewis was fantastic in his first two years, not so much now. Alonso was a monkey at McLaren, but I like him at Ferrari.
I don't really have a stead fast F1 allegiance. I liked Ferrari in the Berger / Alesi days, Williams with Hill but not JV. HATED Ferrari in the Schumi dominance era. Stopped watching for a few years. Got back in to F1 when Lewis joined McLaren, supported them then and have stayed with them since.
I currently also support Force India for their continued efforts over the last few years, Caterham because they are very British historically and have Heikki. Heikki is awesome, even though he went backwards very often at McLaren.
So, mainly it's teams with either terrible luck, British drivers or those that over achieve from time to time. -
Re: Who do you follow/support?
I have my preferred drivers in F1 but always acknowledge when others have done well.
Drivers I like and will on: Jenson Button, Bruno Senna, Kamui Kobayashi, Kimi Raikkonen
Teams I like: Mclaren, Sauber, Williams, Lotus
Drivers I dislike: Pastor Maldonado, Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, Micheal Shumacher
It can change from time to time and I have my reasons for liking/disliking the above. For example, I like Jenson because he's developed into a very good driver indeed and slogs away to get results. I like Kaumi Kobayashi because he's an exciting fast driver who isn't afraid to pass and does so spectacularly.
I dislike Pastor Maldonado because he's a thug on track and has poor racecraft. Crashing out in Australia proves it. I dislike Lewis Hamilton mainly for his attitude and occasional thuggishness on track. -
Re: Who do you follow/support?
It's certainly interesting how in F1 people will follow several teams / drivers and that support is not always guaranteed. I can think of a few sports where that kind of attitude would be shunned! Haha!
I forgot to post before that I'm also a Kobayashi fan. The legend that he is! -
Re: Who do you follow/support?
I am a Ferrari fan but my soft spot is for Massa, the way they treated him in 2010 was appalling and it is no wonder that he lacks motivation now.
I am ultimately a Schumi fan and while i will admit that i got excited when Kimi or Montoya would win and break his dominance, i always stuck with him and still do. People can say that it was the car but i do believe he is the greatest F1 driver to have lived. -
Re: Who do you follow/support?You can argue that all you like, but as we've seen with Vettel and Webber last year, you've still got to be able to use that car to win races.(Original post by Rakas21)

Re: Who do you follow/support?Di Resta I like, but can't see him getting big points with Force India!(Original post by Lib)
Be kinda weird if I supported anyone other than Lotus...
And I do like a good British win, but I'd rather it was Button (or DiResta) than Hamilton.
Lotus got any chance of wins this year you think? be good to see Kimi competitive again

Were you a Renault fan before you joined them?(Original post by Lib)

Re: Who do you follow/support?I probably followed drivers (Hill, JV, DC, FA, Kubica) more than teams before I rocked up here, I guess. But then my more recent driver choices fell in line with the teams drivers in part too!(Original post by mikeyd85)

Re: Who do you follow/support?
Favourite teams
Mclaren(Awesome english team, whats not to love)
Caterham(Best of the newbies so far and great efforts to break into the midfield)
FAvourite drivers
The British ones obviously...
Raikkonnen(Who can't love the iceman?)
Kobayashi(His mad overtakes are still good)
Perez( First race, one stops when everyone else does 2 or 3 and gets point(before DSQ))
In addition to the team/driverss i love there are teams i'm indifferent to and then a few i don't like so i normally have a favourite of any 2 drivers battling. -
Re: Who do you follow/support?
My team allegiance has changed over time but atm McClaren as an all British team are my favourite. I've been a Hamilton fan since he first started in F1, I know his last couple of season he's not always been great but I can understand his frustration, and it says a lot about him that last season which by his standards was poor, he got 3 wins and Alonso, who most people would rate higher, only got 1.
Other favourite drivers: Kimi, Perez, Kobayashi, JB, Di Resta -
Re: Who do you follow/support?But Mclaren had the better car. Its not all about the wins. Who got more points at the end fo the season?(Original post by jelly1000)
