I think I'll get the absolute cheapest halls I can but I kinda hope I don't get a shared room....would be the most frugal option....do you get put into a shared/single room by chance, or are some just left empty because few people check a box saying they'd want one, or what?
    xaxa...I hope I'll get a shared room

I've been wondering for quite long time, why people dislike shared rooms so much? Of course, the less people want a shared room, the biggest chance I'll get one, but I can't understand why you say it's awful to share

Oh no....I'm sure it's not awful! In fact I can think of several reasons why it would be an advantage, like even if you're a social disaster (like um me) you'd have someone to say hello to every day, and it'd be especially good in the beginning....I wouldn't gnash my teeth and wail if I got one, just try to look for the positives, but personally I'd rather be spoilt and comfort-wallowing on this one. Are you going to 'request' one then?

    zaza, Zazie? le metro?

Some people just say they can't imagine anything worse than sharing a room

I'm not a social disaster (at least hope so) but everytime I have to speak English I prefer not to speak at all So you're right, having somebody close to me from day 1 would be great. Plus a shared room is 20% cheaper than a normal one which is important to me.

Oh yes, fingers crossed I'll get one  I don't have much money to spend on accommodation and prefer to buy a bicycle, maybe a new laptop because I have problems with the current one and eat proper food at uni than having a luxury room.

Gosh, your English seems fine to me, but I know exactly the feeling about speaking another language, it's especially Dutch, for me. I expect most people do. How long have you been fluent/near fluent in English? Are you coming here partly to practise it?
If we meet I'll er....be nice to you, so you won't worry about speaking! would be funny if in the end I was won over to the idea of a cheap shared room and I was in yours. ha

Thanks But believe me, there's a big difference between my written and spoken English. I read books, watch films without subtitels and write stories but I have a chance to practice my speaking, say, once a month. My mouth and brain don't work in synchrone You can't imagine what a disaster my IELTS speaking was I was so nervous that I told the examiner I was 11...and he was like "what the hell?!"

Actually, I began studying English seriously in order to go abroad one day...this happened 4-5 years ago. I've been studying German for 12 years but I've never liked it (no offence German people). So I enrolled in an English language school and fell in love with this language immediately....this is my story

It's never too late to change your mind and apply for a twin room Which college you've choosen?

My sister had a shared room to save on costs as she was in London and she hated it!

I think it helps a lot if you have a nice roommate, hers was horrible though. Apparently she once took a boy home and my sister had to knock on someone elses door in her corridor to stay the night with them because obviously she didn't want to be in there with them!

I'm a terrible person in the morning, I don't function without a cup of tea... I think I'd end up being the bad roommate because I'm so messy and disorganised haha! That could cause a lot of tension between some people, and sometimes people just aren't destined to be friends unfortuantley. I'm going ecomony standard though so it should all be good
