Re: University of York Firmers 2012!Hey!(Original post by fiona_x)
Another "not 18 year old" here. I'm still fairly nervous about it though as I'm turning 20 about three weeks into the first term and I was sharing with some people last year who had turned 18 in August so the age gap would be fairly substantial :/
Just stumbled upon this thread. Will be starting a PhD in Medieval History at York, provided I get the funding. Probably don't belong on this thread because I'm a postgrad, but...
When I started my undergraduate degree I was 20, having spent a little while working. Everyone else in my block was 18, coming straight from college/sixth form.
My age wasn't an issue. In fact, I had a friend in another block who was 26, and another in another block who was 28. It wasn't really an issue for them, either.
What I'm saying is... chill! If anything, you will have a small advantage over your peers. Those few more years of experience make a difference, believe me! -
Re: University of York Firmers 2012!
Name: Taija
Age: 19
Course: History of Art
Offer: Conditional
Favourite accommodation: Not sure, actually. I was thinking Derwent or Vanbrugh!
What are you most looking forward to about York? The fact that it's a campus university! And meeting lots of new people. -
Re: University of York Firmers 2012!I'm turning 20 during the summer. I was really nervous that I'd be one of the oldest ones there!(Original post by fiona_x)

Re: University of York Firmers 2012!
I'm 21 and you guys are starting to make me feel incredibly old.
You're not seriously going to notice a difference in the 18 year olds and the 20 year olds, unless you or they are incredibly immature. Stop worrying about it. It's not an issue once you leave school. -
Re: University of York Firmers 2012!
I think i will firm York.
Course: English/Linguistics
Offer: Unconditional
Favourite accommodation: private
I am 18 years old but I always feel so much older than other 18-year-olds... I graduated from school being 17, took a gap year, started working, supporting my parents and so on so those who go to uni just after school... I don't know. I don't really connect with them.

Re: University of York Firmers 2012!Haha thankyou! I know what you're saying is totally true, my best friend at my first uni did a gap year and another friend did two and I didn't even know how old she was until it was her birthday. It just seems different now its me who's going to be older as I met a few people who were incredibly immature who were actually my age so I can imagine it'd be worse if I was a year older.(Original post by Historians drink free)

Re: University of York Firmers 2012!Not exactly. I did the IB before and I was ready to go to university but my grades weren't exactly up to par. So now I'm finishing up A-levels!(Original post by fiona_x)
