PARTNERS programme questions.Hi,
Did anyone apply to Newcastle on a PARTNERS offer via their PARTNERS programme?
I am eligible so I would just like to hear some experiences.
If you would be so kind as to state -
- What course you got a partners offer from?
- What was the assessed summer school like?
- Difficulty of the summer school exams?
- Would you recommend applying through PARTNERS?
- Any other comments on the programme?
Thanks
-
Re: PARTNERS programme questions.
- Computer Science
- Great! Well worth going just to meet a few people and realise uni isn't that big and scary after all.
- I didn't have an exam, I had assessments, very easy, if a little annoying seeing as I hate essays with a passion.
- YES.
- Other comments, I've gotten a ****load of free money for doing well at uni, doing computer science and having come through the PARTNERS scheme. Well worth it just for that.
What course are you looking at doing? -

Your comments have been very useful
I'm looking at doing Medicine, the Partners offer for that is ABB, however even if I do meet the required grades (AAA) I think I'm going to apply via Partners route, since it seems so good
What do you think? -
Re: PARTNERS programme questions.Yeah apply through PARTNERS. Takes the pressure off your grades a little, gives you a chance at whatever free money they want to throw at you and you'll meet a few new people while you're there.(Original post by lsaul95)

I have to warn you though, given that you're studying medicine your assessment will be harder than mine. Just so you know vaguely what to expect, I think last year's medicine assessment was a piece of reflective writing, an exam and possibly another essay but I'm not sure about that one.
Regardless, definitely go for it. It's a good experience. Try to get the student accommodation thrown in if you can.

Yeah, I heard that the assessment is pretty hard, but I'm sure if I turn up to the lectures, etc, write some good notes I'll be able to pass. Gotta work for it if you want it I guess haha
Thanks a lot for you reply, you have helped me decide to take the PARTNERS route

Re: PARTNERS programme questions.
I've heard about this partner route; a friend of mine did it and said that you get a decent amount of support and stuff. If you attend everything and don't neglect the whole thing I'm sure you'd be able to manage it. Just remember that it doesn't make the entry any less competitive, still an amazing opportunity since the offer is two grades less

Re: PARTNERS programme questions.
Hey guys! For anyone applying to PARTNERS, you may have met me. I was working at the "Making the transition" event, and was a partners student in 2009. There really are no drawbacks to the scheme, and i would fully recommend any eligible students to enter through it!
Feel free to ask any specifics

How did you find the whole process? Would you recommend it over normal entry if you were eligible for both?

Re: PARTNERS programme questions.
Well it was a little different when I applied, but the overall scheme is pretty much the same. All in all, it was amazing! You'll meet people who you can meet up with if you join Newcastle in September, so that takes the pressure off making friends in your first couple of days because you already know some people. It gives you a little bit of an idea about what sort of work you can expect to be doing. I had to do an exam and a piece of coursework, and of course you're nervous about the whole thing, but if you give it your all then you'll be fine.
The only obvious drawback is that it takes up a bit of your summer. I wouldn't worry about this though, because the scheme is fantastic, and the people you meet are amazing! Remember you have to make your partners offer your firm choice if you want to accept it, but i'd definitely recommend going for it, its amazing! Once you get to uni in september, you're just in the same situation as everyone else who didn't do partners, so in that respect, there aren't any differences. -

Re: PARTNERS programme questions.Ahh that's awesome, thanks for the information. I'm not too worried about spending a few weeks of my summer there haha. It means I get a taste of what's to come if I'm lucky enough to get that far so it's definitely worth it.(Original post by Scott6791)

What do you mean by 'your firm choice'? Sorry, I'm not application term savvy yet! haha

Re: PARTNERS programme questions.when you make your choices, you have to choose a firm choice and an insurance choice. you must choose your offer from partners as your firm choice(Original post by lsaul95)

Hey
I'm doing Law through the Partners programme, and know of no-one doing partners at all so its nice to see at least one other person even if it is a different course
I won't be applying until next year so you won't see me on the course haha! But do let me know how it goes and what you think of the programme

Re: PARTNERS programme questions.Yeah, I'd love to know if you don't mind(Original post by peanut.)
Hi I applied to the partners scheme to study History.... do you know what the partners scheme has in store for me in the summer? I'm excited but SO nervous

Re: PARTNERS programme questions.
Peanut.
From what i've heard etc it should be a good couple of weeks, those who live far away get the chance to live in halls, and there's also a social aspect.
Obviously it'll just be as similar to uni as what they can make it! & I'm sure everyone will find out more on the pre tutorials
