UCL interview

I have just received an invitation to interview from UCL. However, I live in France and I don't know if I should either :
- accept and pay a lot of money to go to London for one day in three weeks
- or ask them for a phone interview

I'm afraid the second option would make them think I am not as motivated as I should be (not willing to attend the interview).

What should I do? Do you think they would accept a phone interview? Has any of you ever been in this situation or could just please advise me?
