Most peaceful belief/religion
EDIT; if you want to pick agnosticism, jainism or christianity or islam in general, then don't vote yet, I'm having them added as poll option.
There was a thread recently discussing what the OP thought was the worst religion although it decended into a muslim hating thread
even though they didn't think Islam was the worst religion and neither do I, msot of them are as bad as each other.
So what do you think is the most peaceful religion or belief (ie atheism) . . . I add, before anyone tells me off for saying atheism is a religion? AND GIVE A REASON
There are different ways of measuring this ie;
*The belief that has started no/the fewest wars because of their beliefs/other peoples beliefs.
*The belief that preaches the most peaceful/accepting/kind ideas . . . that also accepts other beliefs and doesn't say that it's ok to/ you should go out and kill anyone that isn't a follower.
*The belief that has corrupted the least amount of people and particularly leaders into using said belief as an excuse to kill/ imprison/ torture etc etc people (it might not be the religions fault directly, but it might be something about it that allwowed it's 'abuse' to happen).
I don't claim to know a lot about many religions BUT IMO budhism is probably one of the most peaceful, and for the above reasons, I don't think any kind of christianity or islam can be called the most peaceful religion. YES they may claim to be able love and peace and acceptance but think of all the people that have been killed or harmed in the name of god/ allah because of whats written in the bible/ koran, or the misinterpritation of vague paragraphs in said books that allows corrupt people to say that it's ok to kill gay people because the book says so.Last edited by Clare~Bear; 28-04-2012 at 10:43. -
Re: Most peaceful belief/religion
It's against gay people plus the followers of it have been made corrupt and use Islam as an excuse to restrict peoples lives. If a religion was truely peaceful and accepting of different people then it would be formed in such a way that such corruption was impossible, wouldn't it?

Re: Most peaceful belief/religion
I'm not buddhist, but I must certainly agree that when followed correctly, Theravada Buddhism is probably the most peaceful and allowing religion in the world. My mother, for example, is buddhist and has never had any qualms about my beliefs and interpretations of the world. The form of buddhism that worships Buddha as a deity, however, is not Theravada Buddhism and not something I would consider as accepting and tolerant. I'm agnostic myself and my father is atheist. Some of my harshest and critical friends are actually atheists, though that isn't to say anything bad about atheism itself; rather that many atheists are quite vehemently opposed to religion. Whatever the attitude is, I think it's up to people to believe what they believe insofar as it doesn't cause harm to others. And insofar as it doesn't hamper our progress as a species.
I may also be a little biased in saying this, but assuming I can include agnosticism, I'd say that agnosticism is right up there with Theravada Buddhism. After all, an agnostic doesn't have much reason to strongly oppose either atheism or religion, do they? -
Re: Most peaceful belief/religionGood point, I'm sure there's a couple of other forms of christianity that object to war aswell(Original post by The_Lonely_Goatherd)
Quakers, surely? Don't they conscientiously object to war, regardless of why a war has started, or something?

my reps all out for today, but my one point wouldn't make much of a difference to your great rating anyway, but I'll try and remember tomorrow.

Re: Most peaceful belief/religion
I don't want to answer the poll because I think most religions are peaceful, or intend to be.
I'm a Muslim and quite pro peace, human rights etc, and that's how I read into my religion. I'd just like to point out it is a peaceful religion but has been interpreted wrong, as many religions have been. -
Re: Most peaceful belief/religionAtheism is the lack of a belief of a god, or you could put it that it is the belief that there is no god.(Original post by Archamedes)
Atheism is neither a religion or a belief. -
Re: Most peaceful belief/religion
Poll's biased tbh. You can't ask what religion/belief is the most peaceful and then just list religions

Something to do with astral planes and an in-depth spiritual belief is better than any religion that tells people what to do.
Also, lulz at people saying "Islam" without saying why.
"Islam, hands down".
"How?"
"He's right".

Re: Most peaceful belief/religion
There is no 'peaceful' religion. There are peaceful people, they are the ones who make the best of religion and those who are violent make the worst of it. So for those saying Atheism is the most people, that is not true because you still get Atheist serial killers etc... you just can't blame it falsely on religion like you would a Muslim or Christian or Jewish Serial Killer because that particular serial killer has no religious belief.
A lot of people may kill in the name of God, if they have interpreted a peaceful religion wrong. In the same way, some people may kill because they do not believe in God so do not care for being good either due to a lack of conscience or because they do not want to do good for God. -
Re: Most peaceful belief/religionOh there are but some (e.g. Catholicism) believe in something called "just war", where starting a war can be justified, even though not ideal. Whereas I believe Quakers are against even the concept of just wars(Original post by Clare~Bear)

Dw hun: tiz the thought that counts and any positive thought/rep is always appreciated
