Anyone going to Cumbria University??
Welcome to the University of Cumbria forum: where prospective and current students can discuss everything about life at Cumbria.

Re: Anyone going to Cumbria University??Thanks for the reply.. Bit worried that you said the MSc is not NHS funded - from my research I thought that Masters pre-registration courses in Allied Health Profession degrees have the fees paid and entitlement to an NHS non-means tested bursary. Was this not the case for you?(Original post by Maes Seren)
I'm doing BSc physio. I do have a previous degree but was warned off the MSc as it's not NHS funded and also it's a lot of work crammed into two years.
On the whole, I'd say the uni is pretty equal for mature students, with the greater amount on the HCP courses, our course has just over half of us that are classed as mature. I really enjoy the uni if I'm honest, I went to a different uni to do my previous degree and Cumbria is really making me realise that uni life isn't totally rubbish! The lecturers are lovely too (have met some of the OT lecturers through the interprofessional learning module where we group together with the OTs).
I'll attempt to answer as many questions as you can think of, but being on a different course, I can't really answer course specific ones.

Re: Anyone going to Cumbria University??Ok I've just checked and the website definitely says that it is nhs funded, I presume that it must just be Physio that isn't.(Original post by fraggle_rocker)

Re: Anyone going to Cumbria University??
I'm definitely classed as mature by age (33), just wish someone would tell my mother, hehe.
I've applied to Carlisle for Radiography, had an interview yesterday so I've got my fingers crossed. If accepted, I'll be commuting from the North East as I don't think my better half would allow me to move there, considering the stories I told her of my past Uni life, ha. -
Re: Anyone going to Cumbria University??Hi, I have accepted my offer from UoC to study radiography(Original post by KevM)

Although I am not a mature student but I do actually live here in Cumbria so I will be commuting in everyday. -
Re: Anyone going to Cumbria University??
Wondering if any Cumbria people are interested in sharing a flat from September?
I've been scoping out a few places - I'm a mature student (30) and would prefer somewhere comfortable and reasonably quiet, not a raging party flat
I found a few places which look really nice and reasonably priced (as in under £300 per month) - if anyone wants more details PM me

I'm even more so a mature student then (39) I've got a conditional place to start radiography in sept so hopefully see you ther! I will also b commuting, from Preston tho. Gud luk.(Original post by KevM)

Re: Anyone going to Cumbria University??Things have changed a bit for me. After being declined by Carlisle, but told I gave an excellent interview, I gave up on the Uni idea for this year and have started looking for work.(Original post by KarenJ)

To my surprise I got an email today offering me a place at Uni of Cumbria - snag is that it's for Lancaster campus.
I think that I'm going to have to accept it but it does mean that I'll be living away from home for the entire time - and as I'm getting married next year that means the first two years of married life away from my wife. But I think we both realize what an opportunity this is and we've effectively been given a second chance to get the career I want. -
Re: Anyone going to Cumbria University??I will be at Lancaster too, look forward to meeting you!! You could try to opt for your placements being near home as an idea. I am opting for near Preston if poss then I hopefully dont have to travel far during placement time.(Original post by KevM)

I'm from Washington, which is just the wrong side of Newcastle. Carlisle campus make use of the hospitals over this way, hence my initial choices. But unfortunately Lancaster campus doesn't and I don't think they well be able to be that flexible with them I'll obviously make enquiries when the time comes though.
