    IGCSEs vs. GCSEs
    Hey all,

I often read on the interwebs (not here, but wikipedia and such...reliable I know :P)
that IGCSEs are harder than GCSEs and thus better considered. I was interested in learning your opinions on the subject.

I, for example, have 4 A*s, 3 As and 3 Bs at IGCSE and was told my IGCSEs were comparatively weak. Surely if it's a harder qualification this isn't much worse than 7 or 8 A*s at GCSE which seems to be the Oxbridge mean?

your IGCSE's are fine, they're equally respected to GCSE's and unless you're applying to Birmingham or Oxford medical courses your IGCSE's won't stop you getting into uni.

IGCSE's are no harder content wise they just are terminal exams, it is still a massive debate whether terminal exams are harder because by the end of the course you will be more practised in the subject. Many GCSE's are terminal such as maths so are exactly the same in all but name and having different papers

Igcses are more demanding, I believe, due to the single exam at the end of the course. The requirement for an Oxbridge candidate are around 7A*, however dependant upon the course you wish to apply to, I do not believe that your results, which I must say are quite admirable, will affect your application to uni. Good luck

I did IGCSE'S in year 10, and GCSE's in year 11. Due to changing schools.

IGCSE's to not have modular assessment, meaning that you have to learn more for 1 or 2 big exams at the end of the year.
They are harder than GCSE's. Quite simply, but not by much, and I don't think it really matters which one you do.
