Over: baked rice. Of course it's not going to taste BAD f it is smothered in melted cheese, but other than the cheesy bits on top, nobody cares for the rest of the rice.
Under: paella. I think that's how its spelt. A Spanish rice stir fry with lodsa seafood and spice. Its like a more flavourful, colourful risotto.
What about dishes with beans in them?

Re: Food and Drink: In That Category These Are Nominated - Overrated and Underrated!
Before I answer - If you love Hello Pandas, they're like the poor cousin of Lotte Kancho. Seek you out some Lotte Kancho, those bad boys are EXACTLY like the old Burton Cartoonies...

ANYWAYSES!
OVERRATED: BEANS ON TOAST

It always pains me to refer to these as "overrated" because that carries a negative stigma, and I love them. But in all fairness, they're now synonymous with toast, you say "beans..." and someone says... "...ON TOAST?" - THERE ARE OTHER WAYS TO HAVE THEM. If you want carbs, why not try....
UNDERRATED: SPICY BEAN MASH CRUMBLE.

Mashed potato. Baked Beans. Veg. IN A CRUMBLE, with a spicy kick. A moron can make it, it's filling as hell, and is CARBTACULAR!!
How about OVERRATED AND UNDERRATED: FOOD YOU GET FROM GRANNY'S HOUSE? -
Re: Food and Drink: In That Category These Are Nominated - Overrated and Underrated!
OVERRATED: I was going to say Blue Ribands, but I don't think anyone rates them particularly highly these days (except grannies, obviously). So I'll go with...
CREAM CAKES. Plain sponge filled with tasteless double cream? Ew. I'd rather have a victoria sponge. Slightly better are cakes filled with confectioner's (fake) cream, but they are still messy, bland, cold and soggy. (I'm looking at you, chocolate eclair.)
UNDERRATED: Peas! Everyone loves peas. Grannies serve them with everything, and then you remember how tasty they are.
Over and under of "just add water" snacks in a pot. (i.e. Super Noodles not included) -
Re: Food and Drink: In That Category These Are Nominated - Overrated and Underrated!
OVER: CUPASOUP. Yeah, I got ma soup in a cup, look at how cool I am. It's chicken noodle flavour, look at that pasta in there. Yeah, all in ma cup. I'm cool. Cool with ma cupasoup in ma cup. No, you're drinking probably the crappiest form of soup possible, and you paid like 100 times too much for it. Tiny rubber rings of so called 'pasta' and a watery, powdery soup. Ya, I'm like soooo jealous. (said in faux American girl teen accent).
UNDER: Waitrose LOVE LIFE Chicken Noodle Cupasoup. Now I'm not usually a fan of Waitrose, if i want to pay through the nose for food I'll go to M&S where it is worth the extra money, but I got some of this soup the other week and its actually really good. It's like a whole nother world to Cupasoup. It actually tastes clean and soup-like, not like oil and chicken powder had a love child in your mouth. Plus the noodles a)look like actual noodles and b) taste good too. It also has a fair few noodles in which I wasn't expecting at like 40 cals a cup. Go you Waitrose, go you.
OVER AND UNDER OF THINGS TO HAVE WITH FLAKEY PASTRY?Last edited by dani_1991; 26-07-2012 at 20:52. -
Re: Food and Drink: In That Category These Are Nominated - Overrated and Underrated!
OVERRATED: STEAK PIE.
Maybe it's because mum is notoriously unadventurous, but you can only eat so many steak pies before they become sighworthy on a kif kroeker futurama level.
UNDERRATED: BAKED BEANS.
Toto has went mental, right? NUT. Flaky pastry atop baked beans is a bizarrely epic combo that defies logic!! Try it. BELIEVE.
OVERRATED AND UNDERRATED THINGS TO ADD TO SOUP? -
Re: Food and Drink: In That Category These Are Nominated - Overrated and Underrated!
OVERRATED: Croutons. I don't know why, but fried little bread bits don't do it for me. They either soak up all the soup and lose all crunchiness, or soak up nothing in taste of licking a pavement. Bleah~
UNDERRATED: Call me weird, but i always, always, WITHOUT FAIL, add tabasco to my soup. It makes it spicy, it gives it more flavour, you get to look posh shaking your little tabasco bottle over steaming soup. If you have never tried tabasco in yoru soup yet, try it now. now.
Overrated and underrated of a way to use rolled oats? -
Re: Food and Drink: In That Category These Are Nominated - Overrated and Underrated!I concur! I used to have a thing for sausage rolls and baked beans and even when the stingy amount of sausage had been munched down I was still left with a tantallising prospect.(Original post by TotoMimo)

Re: Food and Drink: In That Category These Are Nominated - Overrated and Underrated!
OVER: Flapjacks. They're great and all, but haven't they been done to death a bit? Plus, the size of some of those! You eat one and it feels like you've had a main meal! Yeek!
UNDER: A little sprinkling of rolled oats over from vanilla yogurt and jam is such a nice breakfast or snack. It brings a bit of crunch to a dish that would just be a bit boring without.
OVER and UNDER of: Green vegetables -
Re: Food and Drink: In That Category These Are Nominated - Overrated and Underrated!
OVERRATED: MANGETOUT.
Used in Stirfries and oriental dishes aplomb, they are always celebrated for adding colour and crunch. But... They have that minging squeaky tooth feel. The waxy interior. They taste like lemongrass has been boiled to death. WHY??
UNDERRATED: GREEN PEPPER.
People generally regard these as the "Pepper Leper", the colour of pepper nobody really cares for. But the magic of the green pepper is it adds peppery crunch without inciting sugary sweetness of reds or yellows; perfect for tomato-based or spicier dishes!!
OVER AND UNDER OF JELLY FLAVOURS? -
Re: Food and Drink: In That Category These Are Nominated - Overrated and Underrated!
OVER: KFC chicken peices. It's not just that the chicken often appears manky and of course it's saturated in grease but their burger/box meals offer a better balance and variety for a meal. Chicken and chips is a bit too dry.
UNDER: Shish kebabs. Doner receives most of the attention, but why settle for such trashy meat when shish is much more authentic tasting and healthier. PLus it's a A LOT easier to eat.
OVER and UNDER of TEA PRODUCTS I.E. TETELEYS, PG TIPS -
Re: Food and Drink: In That Category These Are Nominated - Overrated and Underrated!
Overrated: any brand of Earl Grey.
Seen as the gentleman's tea, it is like you poured a kettle into pot pourri.
Underrated: Punjana. Tetley is the "British one". Typhoo is "the Foreign one", and that's all the supermarkets would lead you to believe exist!! Hardly any promos or shelf space, punjana is really flavourful and not a TITCH of bitterness!!
OVERRATED AND UNDERRATED BREAKFAST MEATS? -
Re: Food and Drink: In That Category These Are Nominated - Overrated and Underrated!
OVER: Bacon. Gasp! I said it! But bacon is used in almost every single hot breakfast. There is a reason for it, because of it's glorious tasty ness, but there are other meats out there on the market.
UNDER: Salami. I am a sucker for the german breakfasts of cold meats, breads and cheeses and salami is one of my favourites to have on a nice piece of freshly baked bread. It's got such flavour, and is a lighter alternative to the greasy english fry up.
OVER and UNDER of:
Fruits you peel skin off. -
Re: Food and Drink: In That Category These Are Nominated - Overrated and Underrated!
OVERRATED: ORANGES.
You WISH this would happen:

But what actually happens:

Seeds clagging up your throat, that horrid white stringy rind in between fingernails, chunks of peel all over the place, and sticky ruptured segments spewing juice EVERYWHERE, it's not really worth the effort!!
UNDERRATED: BANANAS.
Could've said Mango, or Kiwi, or ANY far less "famed" fruits; but truth be told none of them hold a candle to our very own Banana, and I believe it doesn't get enough respect. Sure, it's respected, but from accurate gorilla impressions, as a trap in slapstick, a boat for ice cream in a banana split, used as a pretend gun, or in that "magic trick" where you use a needle and thread to stun stupid relatives by unpeeling a perfectly-segmented inner banana, demonstrating proper use of rubber contraceptive devices, (or simply the world's most naturally potent potassium punch), there are SO many things to do with a banana.
NATURE'S MOST FUN FRUIT!
How about OVERRATED AND UNDERRATED THINGS TO EAT ON A LONG CAR JOURNEY? -
Re: Food and Drink: In That Category These Are Nominated - Overrated and Underrated!
OVER: WHOLE CHOCOLATE BARS (WITH NO CHUNKS/SEGMENTS). Take a Mars Bar for instance, or a Snickers. Both reasonable choices as chocolate bars go, but once they're gone, they're gone. It's not like you can be like hey, I'll eat only two chunks (as you can with a Dairy Milk or a Yorkie), instead you're more inclined to eat the whole thing at once. 2 hour car journey, 10 minutes in, you sir, are snackless. DAMN IT. Shoulda at least got a two-fingers bar, or a bag of Maltesers.
UNDER: MINT IMPERIALS. They have an intense flavour, which sticks with you - minty fresh
- whilst also lasting a long time during the consumption, having to suck em to save the tooth destruction caused by the outer shell. You can also play a game/read a book etc and keep snacking on them, without getting sick of the flavour. Plus, no melty mess should the temperature be high!
OVER AND UNDER OF 5 MINUTE MEALS -
Re: Food and Drink: In That Category These Are Nominated - Overrated and Underrated!
OVERRATED: UNCLE BEN RICE TIME.
I got one of these after all the guys in my work were raving about them. The bloody thing cost me about £3, and it was... rice. Boiled Rice. With sauce. A lame portion of boiled rice with reheated sauce. I COULDVE HAD CHINESE RICE AND CURRY FOR THAT.
UNDERRATED: FRITTATA!!

(Off topic, but I said that like "SHIKAKA!" from Ace Ventura 2). Frittata, or ANY omelette for that matter, can be ANYTHING. ANYTHING AT ALL. Chuck sour cream in it. Chicken. Shredded Duck. Nachos. ANYTHING. It's a super-quick, insanely easy way to make an ANYTHING PATTY.
OVERRATED AND UNDERRATED: DUNKING BISCUITS?
