17, can drive in Sweden?
so i have had my full UK drivers license now for 2 weeks.
once exams are over im heading over to Sweden,
will i be allowed to drive cars there despite only being 17? the driving age there is 18. even though i hold a full license
seems diffiuclt to find information on this, apart from yahoo answers...Last edited by Larsson; 23-03-2012 at 16:45. Reason: mistake -
Re: 17, can drive in Sweden?
This is probably more reliable than yahoo:
http://publikationswebbutik.vv.se/up...rt_svenska.pdf
On page 2 it says that a foreign license is not valid unless you're over 18.

Re: 17, can drive in Sweden?Wait what? you can't learn to drive over there if you already have a full driving licence here.(Original post by Larsson)
i am already set up with all the necessary documents to drive as a learner over there i guese that will just have to do... -
Re: 17, can drive in Sweden?i just meant that i had the all of the learnersdocuments and stuff already done from when i was previously there when i still hadent passed my test...(Original post by tehFrance)
Wait what? you can't learn to drive over there if you already have a full driving licence here.
i would presume i can still drive as a learner there is i am under 18 as i have done before since i am not able to hold a full license in Sweden. -
Re: 17, can drive in Sweden?Do you or do you not already hold a Full UK/EU Driving Licence? If you do, you cannot go and drive as a learner, that is illegal. Likewise driving there under 18 is apparently illegal even if you have a full licence. You are screwed either way tbh.(Original post by Larsson)

Re: 17, can drive in Sweden? You're correct - so if you get a UK licence at 17 and when you're 18, exchange it for SE Licence you'll be a winner!(Original post by Ivarss)
Yes, but they can't give you driving license if you are under 18. -
Re: 17, can drive in Sweden?i could do this, i already have my UK license, and im 17..(Original post by fruit_n_veg)

Re: 17, can drive in Sweden?
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10576673
Through a reform implemented in Sweden, September 1993, the age limit for practising car driving was lowered from 17 to 16 years while the licensing age remained 18. The purpose of lowering the age limit was to give the learner drivers an opportunity to acquire more experience as drivers before being allowed to drive on their own
Driving facts
l The minimum legal driving age for
cars and trucks in Sweden (<3.5
tonnes) is 18. Learner drivers can
obtain a provisional licence from the
age of 16 but are only allowed to drive
with an approved instructor.
