Is the ''University of London'' degree really prestigious?
So, basically I have fallen in love with Royal Holloway and throughout their website and prospectus they have said that a 'University of London' degree has recognized globally and leads to top career opportunities.
I am an international student and after graduating, I would simply love to work in the UK if that would be possible. Would employers really value a degree from the University of London?
People have told me that University of London isn't that respectable and is mainly just an abstract term. In fact, Imperial resigned itself from the University of London and many others are trying to width raw too.
Please, could anyone help me on this? :s -

However, remember that the colleges make decisions about whether to stay or go from the University of London based on their own interests, not those of their students. -
Re: Is the ''University of London'' degree really prestigious?
It is true Imperial broke away from the Uni of London.
I can't say what the official reasons were but the Uni Of London does not really exist. If someone said they went to the Uni Of London, the question that springs to mind is, "Which college in particular?"
Most league tables place Imperial as the top uni in London. Along with UCL and LSE, they tend to be the top three, so in terms of averages, they are above average.
Therefore it makes sense to claim to be part of the Uni Of London, if the institution concerned is below average, otherwise one would explicitly state which college they attended.
Don't forget, Uni Of London can also mean the ex-polytechnics (ie post 1992 unis). -
Re: Is the ''University of London'' degree really prestigious? There is no ex-Poly in the University of London and there are rumours that City, a Robbins university, applied to join and was turned away.(Original post by dugdugdug)

The last college to join was Central School of Speech and Drama
