Cambridge Applicants for 2013 Entry
Welcome to the University of Cambridge forum: where prospective and current students can discuss anything about Cambridge.

Re: Cambridge Applicants for 2013 EntryNo, just the college itself(Original post by oli_G)
Is there anything about medicine at Christs's in particular that made you decide to choose it or was it just the college itself? If that makes sense.
Also, I have a feeling they put a lot of weighting on UMS because I've always heard about the general talk that Cambridge wants 90+%, but when I was talking with the admissions tutor she was the only person to tell me to aim for 95+%.Last edited by cz100; 15-04-2012 at 15:06. -
Re: Cambridge Applicants for 2013 EntryDo you go there often?(Original post by cz100)
I didn't look that far, and it's way at the back so you have to go through the first 2 courts to get to it. Still I guess anything is used to shortlist colleges at this stage
I wouldn't get too caught up on the competition bit, I didn't feel Christ's was any more competitive and other colleges
I've grown up driving along Queen's Road to get from one home to the other so I've always wondered which college it belonged to, because from the back it looks so out of place next to King's etc XD
My cousin went there!(Original post by Oromis263)
So, I think my plans for a gap year are coming together! :')
July-August: Do 6 week placement at the UCL, MedPhys department
September: Move to Cambridge, after hopefully finding a college I can enter as a private candidate, hopefully at Hills Road Sixth Form
September-January: Study for Geology A-level, sit all 4 exams in January
October: Apply for research placement at Cavendish
December: Interview time!
January: Be delighted with the news, or horrifically depressed. Sit exams
February-June: Prepare for FP3, FP4, AEA Maths and STEP I
In between those times, I'll maybe try find work experience at other places, perhaps Astrium or somewhere in Cambridge.
Oh, and begin to play piano.
Quite excited now..
Your plan sounds awesome
Did you not sit any? -
Re: Cambridge Applicants for 2013 EntryNo, I live in Northern Ireland and have only been once for my interview, stayed the night and loved it(Original post by Etoile)

Re: Cambridge Applicants for 2013 EntryAh cool, I thought you were there already, but your offer is for next year, my bad XD Do you anticipate often visiting that building and/or know what it is for? :L(Original post by cz100)
No, I live in Northern Ireland and have only been once for my interview, stayed the night and loved it
Also, I bet you have an awesome accent.

Re: Cambridge Applicants for 2013 EntryI think it might be for accommodation.(Original post by Etoile)

During one of my interviews the interviewer actually commented that my accent was 'very Ulster'

Re: Cambridge Applicants for 2013 EntryI should think they would, surely it's just for fitting you into lessons that the date would be for? (sorry if the English doesn't make any sense XD)(Original post by Oromis263)
Nice. I'm a bit worried about whether or not they would accept me, as the application date for local areas has passed... but all I really need is a centre to sit the exams, and help with the coursework.. and it's the closest to my house.
Ahh. Well I hope you enjoy your concrete monstrosity once you are there.(Original post by cz100)

Very nice!
Very wise
Speaking of which, apparently Edinburgh is a 14 hour train ride away from me, or an hour and a half by plane. Fml. -

Edinburgh is my 'back-up' for this year, and hopefully next year, assuming they don't blacklist me.. D: Edinburgh easily makes up for and far outstrips Cambridge in terms of city beauty (I'm sorry, it's true!), but I'm really going to university for the academics, so I thought Cambridge deserved one more try. I mean, it's not like I've wanted to go for over 10 years now... -

Ooh awesome! I haven't been there so I'll take your word for it. I haven't actually been to Scotland at all
That's true, but it's important not to get too hung up on one place as well. I'm sure you'd be equally happy at either.

I was in America for secondary and go to UK sixth form now but because of the circumstances I'm still considered a home student. Quite complicated and my school isn't quite sure how having no GCSEs is going to work out for me.

Re: Cambridge Applicants for 2013 EntryWell, at least you don't have bad grades to count against you(Original post by Americaniamh)
No.

Do you have a high school transcript or something?
I'll bet! Must be some motivation to revise!

Re: Cambridge Applicants for 2013 EntryI am joining a bit late, but hey...(Original post by Kidioteque)
As the thread for 2012 applicants was created at about this time last year (and the Oxford sub-forum has one too
), I figured it was about time somebody set up a thread for 2013 applicants.
Obviously some of us will be waiting to find out AS UMS scores before committing (me included), but I thought it might be good to use the thread as a place to gain motivation and chat with other prospective applicants.
If you wish to be added to the Cambridge Applicants for 2013 Stalking Page, just write your relevant information (course, AS Levels taken, academics, colleges being considered) in a post with me quoted in, and I'll add you to the list when I get the chance. If you feel comfortable with the wiki editing format, by all means add yourself to the table.
LET THE GAMES BEGIN!
Course: Mathematics (with Physics).
AS: Further Maths, Additional Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry, General Studies + EPQ.
Predictions: Straight As at AS and A* in A2 Maths.
Academics: 11A*s, 2As at GCSE; A in FSMQ Additional Maths, A in AS Maths.
Colleges: I haven't narrowed it down enough yet...Last edited by Maths_Lover; 15-04-2012 at 18:49. -
Re: Cambridge Applicants for 2013 EntryHaha, yeah that's true!(Original post by Etoile)

Do you have a high school transcript or something?
Yeah, I do, but I think unis require Americans applying to have qualifications beyond that as America's school system is incredibly non-standardised, so they won't count for much. But I'm trying to ignore it for now and just focus on getting the AS results to be able to consider Cambridge.
I just like to complain about it...

Re: Cambridge Applicants for 2013 EntryWas that the humanities residential? I was on the sciences one.(Original post by Linguist-Z)
Just came back from an Easter residential program at Caius, I'm now confused about both course and college...
GAAH.

I am also now confused about which college to apply to: the college was lovely. Which courses are you considering?Last edited by Maths_Lover; 15-04-2012 at 19:30. -
