Re: Cambridge Applicants for 2013 Entry
I'm hoping to apply to Natural Sciences (Biological).

Finally coming round to Cambridge? You know you want to...(Original post by Kalliope)

Hey there!
Thoughts on Little Gidding? This might not be the right thread. -
Re: Cambridge Applicants for 2013 EntryCool. I'll look forward to it.(Original post by j.alexanderh)
I have some thoughts. I shall marshal them while I sleep and report back tomorrow.
Think I'm going to read. If I sleep this early I'll resort to running early again (which is too much on top of my 4 mile walk to school
).

Re: Cambridge Applicants for 2013 EntryFair enough. Is that because of the subjective nature of English Lit? I'm trying to look at courses which offer a more rounded approach to literature, at least, so I don't have to abandon some of those disciplines. I take quite a rounded group of A-levels as it is.(Original post by j.alexanderh)
I'm choosing to study maths mostly because I'm more confident of my ability in it than any other subject, rather than because I have a unique interest in it. There are lots of other subjects I'd happily study to degree level - philosophy, physics, music, Classics, MFL. I think I would be better suited to a rounded liberal arts education, but they seem, ah, hard to come by in the UK.
The great thing about The Waste Land is how strongly it shines even through its own opacity. There's no question it's a masterpiece; you don't need to be a connoisseur to recognise that. Many of the lines immediately strike you as being some of the most powerful in all poetry even if the whole is totally bewildering.
Yes, that sums it up well. I'm slightly lost in the discussion on this thread! I'm yet to read any Hardy, unless you count the negligible attention paid to The Man He Killed as part of the AQA Anthology. And Drummer Hodge, because of The History Boys!
And Little Gidding is unfortunately towards the end of Four Quartets so Ralph Fiennes has yet to get around to reading it on my audio CD.

Re: Cambridge Applicants for 2013 EntryHear hear, I can help people out here too.. ^_^(Original post by Junaid16)
I might re-apply if I can be bothered and get good enough A2s. If anyone wants advice on what NOT to do during the application process, I'm sadly very knowledgeable

I'm having some trouble with the spoiler and expand code in the OP, and was wondering if it would be okay to start a stalking page which we can update instead? In the long run it'll probably be better and it means I don't have to carry on tearing my hair out over the buggy code system which is used on the thread. I'll be more than happy to be the one to update the wiki regularly.

Re: Cambridge Applicants for 2013 EntrySame! We've been told that we won't be able to finish the syllabus in Biology and will have to self-teach over Easter, which sucks. I have yes(Original post by Kidioteque)
Haha, I feel exactly the same! Need to get down to it, but it's awkward when I haven't even finished the syllabus in a lot of my subjects.
It's nice to go from stalking to actually being part of it all (I see you have discovered our Cambridge equivalent
).
Other places I'm considering besides Oxford and Cambridge are Durham, UCL, KCL, LSE, Bristol, Warwick, and Nottingham. The only problem is that I'm struggling to decide whether or not I need more of an insurance choice - unfortunately, the majority, if not all, of the 'desirable' law schools are AAA. There seems to be a gulf in reputation between those and the AAB unis, so I need to decide whether to go 'all out' at the risk of getting no offers (or missing them come August), or alternatively play it smart and put down a lower offer law school so that I have something to fall back on. :s
What about you?
I am committed to Oxford, of course, but I like your thread too
Do you know which of the two you prefer btw?
Good choices
Yeah, that's something I'm worried about to. The Unis that are AAB and I would consider (
) tend to be massively oversubscribed cos everyone goes for them, and I think it might be tactically better to go for a less popular AAA especially iif I prefer it. I'm confident on getting AAA afterall. I'm thinking Durham and York and possibly Bristol, Exeter, Warwick, Leeds & Sussex.
No, I don't(Original post by --emma--)

Finally coming round to Cambridge? You know you want to...
I did consider it for ages actually and was very torn - but I prefer the Oxford course, city & geographical location.

Re: Cambridge Applicants for 2013 EntryOoh, interesting. Any authors/specialism in particular?(Original post by geetar)
I might apply for the MPhil in Renaissance literature (I missed the deadline this time around
), it'll depend on whether anything is going on in my life job wise by then.
What sort of literature are you into?(Original post by SixteenHundred)

Re: Cambridge Applicants for 2013 EntryIt is brilliant(Original post by Lily Academia)
As am I.
Well. No, that's a lie - if I go to bed now I'll end up waking up at 4 (and last time I did that I went running at 6. Not. Good. Come. Physics. Which was first lesson.) but I'm turning off Hedgehog now anyway.
I'm studying Little Gidding as part of my Anthology and think it's brilliant. If that comes up in the exam, I might turn religious.
I completely refuse to believe that Lily. You are incredibly smart - you are taking an insane number of A levels, you have very erudite conversations ((Original post by Lily Academia)
NO! Aw, that is ridiculously sweet
You are amazing, you better remember that!
See, thing is Shanti - I'm not as smart as you. I go to a comprehensive that has an average grade of an E. I think... Oxford's setting my sights too high. Especially with med allowing me only 4 choices. Although, if I were to somehow become brilliant, get guts, and apply - it'd be Oxford, hands down
) - and you are committed to medicine, and would be a wonderful doctor. Obviously, Oxford medicine is insanely competitive so I do completely understand the hestiation, but don't necessarily rule it out if it is your dream. You can't get an offer if you don't apply! Pretend that you go to comprehensive of TSR (
) where we are your class and Minerva is your UCAS advisor. And anyway to be so fabulous at such an awful school is an achievement in itself.

Re: Cambridge Applicants for 2013 EntryI did quite a broad range at uni (I graduated last summer), so managed to get in a lot of different writers - I did one really good module in my final year on drama from 1580-1730, so I got in loads of different stuff. As cliched as it might be, I specialised in Shakespeare, including my dissertation.(Original post by Kalliope)
Ooh, interesting. Any authors/specialism in particular? -
Re: Cambridge Applicants for 2013 EntryGothic fiction, classical texts, and Shakespeare. I'm working on broadening it as much as possible! Also a fair bit of Irish literature, so Joyce, Wilde and Yeats, and I've seen Translations by Brian Friel. I'm a massive Ray Bradbury fan as well.(Original post by Kalliope)

Re: Cambridge Applicants for 2013 Entry
Hey
I want to major in architecture. I'm an international applicant, and though for Cam the secondary school qualification of my country is not enough I'm taking AP's as well as A levels. What subjects would you recommend for A levels? I've yet to register but I'm really confused. I'm a math-science student so I'll probably take Math, physics, chem. Also, I have the option of either taking the CIE A levels or Edexcel. Which one would you recommend? Thanks in advance!

Re: Cambridge Applicants for 2013 Entry(Original post by Kalliope)
I'm so excited
You should have applied! I would have loved a Cy11er to join me, especially one as lovely as you

I would have! Except I hadn't heard of it before you. And also you have to pay for it
I've applied but it's doubtful I'll get in.(Original post by iCiaran)
Also, out of curiosity is anyone here going for a Sutton trust summer school at Cambridge?
Lily, if you actually believe this then there's no hope for anyone!! Your school's average grade is nowhere near your grades and if anyone's good enough to get in then it's you.(Original post by Lily Academia)

Awesome, is it this?
Oh no(Original post by Junaid16)

What kind of things can you advise us against?

Re: Cambridge Applicants for 2013 EntryI went on that! That's where I saw the posh people

You are applying in our year!
Your education confuses me

I'm doubtful I'll get in.

Re: Cambridge Applicants for 2013 Entry
Hey guys! Hopeful Cambridge medic here!
Having a bit of a college crisis at the moment, just cannot decide between Emma and Trinity Hall...anyway good luck to everyone for their May/June exams, got my timetable through today so it suddenly seems much closer than I thought...
