cool your the master gaskell!!! I wish I had a black belt and taught kids instead of training with them and being inaccurately kicked in my (UM) by them. Female as I am it still hurts
We had a new guy in our session once and we were learning the kicks (we only do three kicks on our syllabus) and he was so over enthusiastic and kicked me really hard; the next time he came in to kick I had to block it and execute a move on him lol; well I warned him I would, he ended up in a heap on the floor

Where have you all gone ..

Hope everyone is fine ; I returned to training yesterday and it was good .. My shoulder is still sore but it's healing slowly.. We did hand to hand combat yesterday, something that isn't part of the jitsu sylabbus but still worth learning, we had boxing gloves and everything. We did some sparring (which we never do in jitsu) and then we had some fights (which we always do in jitsu lol).. enjoyed it loads!!!

    Hey there Dimexi

Glad you're back at training, feels good to get back into it after you've been away doesn't it!

It's odd, all the things you've described as not being part of your syllabus are things that we do at my club nearly every lesson lol. Hand to hand sparring's good fun, our sensei gets us to combine loads of different techniques most of the time, which is great (especially when a sweep's thrown in :p: )

Had a training session last night, was good - did lots of kata work and then drill applications... there's a grading in May, I'm determined to go for my brown belt! woo! lol.

I had the SAME shoulder pains.. you should DEFINITELY take the week off and get some IBULEVE gel into those inflammed muscles.. but make sure you are not allergic to IBUPROFEN..

ah good stuff ; wish you all the best for brown belt ..

We don't spar in jitsu, we have a more demanding enviroment than sparring.. We simulate reall attack situations (.i.e. someone throwin a punch, use of rubber Coshes, wooden knives, safety chains) and we learn general defences against all these attacks/weapons using Jitsu/Judo defence techniques

Is anyone excited about martial arts being turned into an Olympic sport? I think its great as it will shed more light onto the Martial Arts scene, and possibly make more oppertunities to study different martial arts in areas. It would be great if it got encouraged at uni or at schools.

Some martial arts are already olympic sports atm e.g. taekwando and Judo, are they looking to turn others into olympic sports? That will definitely be interesting and promote Martial arts world wide ..

The ones I heard they were concidering doing are, Chinese martial arts and more Japanese and korean. It is all because of the big push by the Chinese Gourvernment and since Olympics 2008 is in Beijing (I think) the focus will be on Chinese culture.

Training was GREAT today! Had a really stressful weekend so was great to release the stress.
I dont think Ive ever been so focused, did: stamp kicks, body blocks, hook punches. Then did a combo of block, back punch, reverse punch. Then did some disarming moves in pairs! Hurt my sisters wrist though!
