Hi everyone,
i have received conditional offers for both warwick and bath.
i like bath more but warwick has a better reputation. I will be sitting my public exam few days later, so its actually a conditional offer, i have to choose which one to put as firm and which one as insurance
just went on bath's website, they said that they wont reserve accomodation for insurance holders, so can anyone tell me what exactly will happen if i put bath as insurance
can anyone tell me wt i should do and can anyone tell me more about accomodation in bath?? i am kinda worried because my result will be released in july. I dun want to be homeless LOLL -
Re: firm, insurance plus accomodation?? bath students help!
Reputation alone won't get you far in life. Love what you study; love where you study.
If you put Bath as insurance and end up choosing it, they'll give you accommodation if the firmers haven't taken them all. You're likely to get a spot somewhere, but it's not guaranteed I suppose. On the chance you don't get accommodation, you can simply rent a room somewhere in Bath; not so bad. Students are required to move out of university accommodation for their second year anyway.Last edited by Angelus; 26-03-2012 at 07:26. -

Re: firm, insurance plus accomodation?? bath students help! The social life is reasonable. There are many international students and no discrimination whatsoever. You'll fit in fine.(Original post by centregirl)

Stuck in a room/flat? Feel free to wander around outside or be invited to other people's rooms/flats.
Your room is your own unless you choose to have a shared room for lower costs.
I'm currently a second year physicist at Bath. -

Re: firm, insurance plus accomodation?? bath students help! The social life many would say is reasonable; not the best but not the worst either. Here's an example of a thread which discusses more about the matter: click me.(Original post by centregirl)

Re: firm, insurance plus accomodation?? bath students help!LOL it's like 25% international...The admissions tutor tried to convince us, it's the "norm" after further research, the normal for quite a few Unis was more like 7%...(Original post by Angelus)

Hence they just got rejected
. Seems like an OK uni in my opinion, no huge clubs around though

Re: firm, insurance plus accomodation?? bath students help!I didn't quite follow you there. Something along the lines of international students rejected from other universities?(Original post by Doctor.)

Re: firm, insurance plus accomodation?? bath students help!Bath is a lovely city. Very beautiful and on the tourist route. It is safe and quite rich. The university is set on a hill (all of Bath is hilly until you get into the centre) and the university buildings themselves are not pretty.(Original post by centregirl)

The city is not known for lots of clubs and nightlife but the university itself will arrange things. There are also pubs, lots of places to eat and meet friends, tea rooms and interesting shops, public parks, street entertainment, markets etc. They have rebuilt a spa bath in the centre. There is a railway station and the train gets to the larger city of Bristol in 15 minutes. This has many clubs and gigs and bigger, glossier shops and a more mixed community so if you want a bigger city experience too it is easy to reach. Bristol is near to the coast. In the other direction the train can take you to cities such as Oxford or London within a hour or two. In the summer if you are still in the city it is easy to reach places like Glastonbury for the music festival.
The university has an excellent academic reputation and there are many international students. I do not believe you would experience any problem with people at the university or in the city.
Warwick is a campus university in the midlands. It has a fantastic academic reputation but not a brilliant location in that it is in a field outside the city of Coventry and its buildings are not so attractive. The city of Coventry is a little economically depressed. However you can also reach the extremly large city of Birmingham which is Britain's second largest and is full to the brim with shops, night life and things to do. There are also pretty towns in the area such as Leamington Spa or the town of Warwick itself. Trains from Birmingham go all over the country as it is a central hub. Trains from Leamington Spa reach Oxford in 30 minutes and you can go on to London.
The Midlands has a greater percentage of multi-cultural communities than the South West where Bath is but also a greater incidence of crime because of the larger cities. I think you would still find the environment safe and welcoming enough.
Hope this helps.

Re: firm, insurance plus accomodation?? bath students help!Noooo, I mean- They have an extremely high proportion of internationals compared to most UK universities. It's really good for international students!(Original post by Angelus)

The word 'rejected' in your post threw me off.
Oh, and good luck with your dream of becoming a doctor!Last edited by Angelus; 26-03-2012 at 21:53. -
Re: firm, insurance plus accomodation?? bath students help!Unless you put down you want to share a room all students have their own room to themselves in all British universities and then a space that they share together with a group of other students such as a kitchen and living room. There is usually a choice as to whether you wish to pay extra to have an en-suite bathroom. Some universities offer catered accomodation too and there is usually a choice as to whether to be self catering or catered for. Most student rooms are pretty tiny but they will have a bed, bookshelf, desk, wardobe etc.(Original post by centregirl)

Costs for living are roughly £8100 per annum including all rent, bills, food, entertainment, travel, books etc However some people spend much more than this and others get by on much less by being careful. Its an average. I think rents in the second and third year in Bath may be a little higher than in Midlands where Warwick is. Fees are on the sites for each university.

What is Catered accommodation???
And does Bath have any kind of mess or something similar where all the students can eat daily instead of spending 10-15 pounds daily???
Thankz again!!!
