Death Sentence - Balwant Singh - Share your views
As many of you know about the famous 'Kony' video, Well another genocide has happened during 1984 - Present towards the Sikhs in india.
Known as 'Operation Blue Star'
It is said that almost a 8,000 (reported - CIVILLIANS) were wiped out even though the INDIAN government had said that only '400' Sikhs were killed.
Women and young girls were raped on various occasions by the police/army.
Men and young boys were killed
= All because they were Sikh.
The injustice was covered up by the indian government by setting curfews, urging all the reporters out of the holiest city in Punjab (were many Sikhs & other faiths gather to pray) - Alot of people around the world till this date to not know what happened.
Balwant Singh has been in jail for 17 years; He was a part of a group who had planned to kill one of the leaders who organised these killings of innocent civillians in Punjab and now Balwant Singh is getting sentenced to death.
Please refrain from any ignorant behaviour - Remember, Sikhs contributed heavily to world war 1&2
Please spread awareness, this is injustice! - My view.

I am a sikh and i visited some of these memorial places in Amritsar, my grandfather fought in the British army during world war 2 then afterwards transferred to the Indian army. It is a bit of a hidden past i think and like you said not many people know.

Re: Death Sentence - Balwant Singh - Share your viewsNo unfortunately he died about 10 years(Original post by Rajie_)
It's a sad fact, and people need to know about this. Is your grandfather still alive? and if so, does he remember 1984??

Re: Death Sentence - Balwant Singh - Share your viewsThe Sikhs that suffered at the hands of the Indian government do need recognition, but there are a few things in your post that are just plain wrong.(Original post by Rajie_)

Known as 'Operation Blue Star'
It is said that almost a quarter of a million Sikhs were wiped out even though the INDIAN government had said that only '400' Sikhs were killed.
Women and young girls were raped on various occasions by the police/army.

Even the highest estimate puts the death toll of Operation Blue Star at around 8,000.
Sikhs didnt make anywhere near the majority of the British Army during either World War, indeed they have never done so. -
Re: Death Sentence - Balwant Singh - Share your viewsI love Sikhs. You guys are awesome.(Original post by Rajie_)

Though you didn't make up the majority of the Army in the world wars. -
Re: Death Sentence - Balwant Singh - Share your viewsOperation Bluestar is when they launched attacked at Golden Temple. However the mass murders commited by the Indian Police, Beant. It was called operation woodrose. However if you say 8000 people died, how many of them were civillians, how many of them were children, mothers, fathers ect. If a person is being hanged due to killing one person how about those corrupt people who killed alot of people and are still free and in higher positions in goverment(Original post by Steevee)

Re: Death Sentence - Balwant Singh - Share your viewsI know, but you stated that the death toll of Operation Bluestar was near a quarter of a million, which just isn't true. I have trouble finding any reliable statistics on Woodrose, I don't trust Sikhwiki I have to say, having seen their obvious bias on many other issues. And the only sources I can find that give a figure tend to be from websites that are 'Sikh-something' which is never a good sign.(Original post by avtar95)

Re: Death Sentence - Balwant Singh - Share your viewsWhat was this, WW2?(Original post by Annie72)

Re: Death Sentence - Balwant Singh - Share your viewsYoou have to take into consideration that SIKHS are treated as SECOND class citizens in Punjab (the majory Sikh land in india) ..The Massacre was government funded, therefore - these figures aren't fixed. Also, Many people who were killed and attacked throughout this massacre are missing, india doesn't have a proper recordds system anyway - it's mixed up. Believe me, It is 8,000 or even more. It was a MASS massacre(Original post by Steevee)
