Can't choose whether to firm Uni of Man of Keele! :/
Hi guys,
Really struggling with which university I should firm; whether to firm uni of Manchester for a life sciences foundation year or to firm Keele for a science foundation year.
I know that Manchester is better rated and known worldwide but I can see myself doing better at Keele and making more friends at Keele for some reason; what would you guys do if you were in my place?
Thanks! -
Re: Can't choose whether to firm Uni of Man of Keele! :/
I may be in a similar position if I somehow get an offer for nursing at Manchester as I have an offer for deferred entry at Keele (for my insurance choice btw
)
I wanted to withdraw from Manchester because I don't really want to go there although it's better rated and transport would be a hell of a lot easier for placement there but my Dad's told me that Keele isn't acceptable because of the deferred entry. I personally love Keele and it seems far more friendlier there and I could see myself happy there so I'm actually praying to be rejected from Manchester at the moment.
Worse comes to worse I'm always going to choose Keele (and probably tell my dad I was rejected from Man even if I get an offer so he gets off my back). At the end of the day it's got to be where you think you'll be happy and achieve not because of leaguetables

If it makes you feel better, I'm a current Keele student and I'm so glad I came here. Keele was my insurance choice and Kent my firm however I'm glad I didn't get into Kent. Keele is a lot nicer and friendlier and the social atmosphere is really good! And don't let league tables put you off, Keele is actually a really good university, the tables just don't reflect that. And we have squirrels :P

Re: Can't choose whether to firm Uni of Man of Keele! :/Haha, yeah that helps and to be honest, I'll probably firm it even though my tutor doesn't agree with me.(Original post by Harpoon)

Can you tell me if you got student accommodation even though Keele was your insurance? If so, which type of accommodation did you get?
Thanks anyway! -
Re: Can't choose whether to firm Uni of Man of Keele! :/Insurance students don't get on campus accommodation which is the only downside. Keele hold a housing fair on the Sunday after you get your results to help you find a house but in all honesty, after your results, if you have Keele as your insurance, go on Facebook, go onto all the Keele pages and start enquiring for people to share a house with, will make it so much easier!(Original post by alex_coleman)

Currently in my third year at Keele and about to go into my fourth. There's pretty much nothing I don't know about the place so quote me up if you have any questions

Keele's a pretty awesome place really. It's not as high as Manc on the tables, but it's all about choosing an environment which you'll flourish in, and Keele certainly provides that. -
Re: Can't choose whether to firm Uni of Man of Keele! :/Hi! Keele is lovely. Really pleased with the campus on open day.(Original post by ~Kat~)

I wanted to know about the foundation year in general, would you be able to help me with that?
Also, do you know if keele have high employment rates? -
Re: Can't choose whether to firm Uni of Man of Keele! :/I don't really know much about the mechanics of foundation years, but I had a couple of friends who took one and they seemed pleased enough with it. What I gathered from them is it's kind of just a recapping of general studies and whatever subject you're going into. Was there anything in particular you wanted to know about them?(Original post by alex_coleman)

Employability is great, it's about 95% in general. If you look on the Keele website at the subject you're taking, it should also tell you there the employment rates for that specific degree.

Re: Can't choose whether to firm Uni of Man of Keele! :/Is the employability rate really that high? Didn't think it was that high but if that figure is accurate then that's pretty awesome!(Original post by ~Kat~)

I wanted to know what i'll be learning in the foundation year, the fact that i haven't studied science for two years, so i thought i could catch up on some during the summer holidays and then i have some kinda basic knowledge.
Thanks! -
Re: Can't choose whether to firm Uni of Man of Keele! :/That was on the official website and I couldn't find any others so I assume it's right. It includes graduates who went on to further study or planned free time, so that's probably why it's so high.(Original post by alex_coleman)

Science foundation year will just basically recap year 11 GCSE and some AS-Level sciences. It'll also include some maths, english and general studies stuff. I'm not sure on what in particular. -
Re: Can't choose whether to firm Uni of Man of Keele! :/I was in a similar position, but apparantly the NMC is considering altering nursing entry next year and you may need A Level Biology. I'm not sure if you know this but thought I'd mention it anyway(Original post by BeccaAnne94)

I'm not sure it'd make a difference if you've already got the offer, but you might have to check with them.

Re: Can't choose whether to firm Uni of Man of Keele! :/Oh well that's no problem, revising for biology at the moment(Original post by Cherriesxo)

Re: Can't choose whether to firm Uni of Man of Keele! :/
If you keep track on the league tables, Keele has been having increasing ranking over the past few years.
The reason why I chose Keele is because of the student satisfaction rate 4.4/5.0 and I'm so content with my life here now (I'm a fresher

Re: Can't choose whether to firm Uni of Man of Keele! :/What do you count as a proper university experience?(Original post by enigma1122)
keele is tiny its not like a proper university experience... i'd pick manchester, plus it has a better rep.
I'd much rather be at Keele than at Manchester.
